A few of the dogs are confused about basification in Phlux's mesc tek here:
For a 100g batch of Pedro powder, Phlux says:
"A very strong batch of lye water(200ml or so) is made and added to the tea"
and then says:
"i think the best thing to do is add saturated lye solution until the solution is a nice red color.
do some pulls and when the yeild per pull drops too much - add a bit more base and continue pulling."
The solubility of NaOH in water is ~1g/ml so a 200ml saturated lye solution contains 200g of NaOH.
- Would a good dog use an amount of lye solution proportional to the amount of pedro powder?
- Can excess lye solution hurt the yield?
- Can anyone say what "a nice red color" is? Perhaps a photo?
