Pictorial Guide to Caapi Vine Alkaloid Extraction

Migrated topic.

For me, sublingual harmalas followed by a sub-breakthrough dose of vaporized DMT is very similar to a pharma experience, but of course it lasts only 30 minutes or so.

I notice harmala effects with as little as 10mg caapi extracted alkaloids. I’ve also taken up to about 100mg sublingually, and it felt very much like an oral dose – including the nausea. I find 15-25mg sublingually at least 20 minutes (or as much as 2 hours) before vaporizing produces a nice effect.

Whoa, so if one wants to inhale "breakthru-dose" of 25-35mg it will last 20-30 minutes:shock: with sublingual harmalas? Or did you refer to the pharma experience lasting 30 minutes? So in general: How much does the sublingual harmalas actually extend the DMT experience(any dose 10 to 40mg)?

30 minute breakthrough might be just a bit over my cup of tea.:surprised

Thanks alot, I appreciate the help.

Taking a breakthrough dose of DMT after sublingual harmalas will not extend the breakthrough by much, but will extend the come-down period. So if a "normal" DMT breakthrough without harmalas lasts 10 minutes followed by a 5 minute comedown, with sublingual harmalas you'll get maybe a 12 minute breakthrough and a 20 minute comedown.

Thanks, that really clears the matter.

Any comments on how does it alter the DMT experience in general? I have read only that it makes it slower and bit longer. Some have even mentioned dialogue with the caapi spirit.

I think it definately is interesting subject to spice fan such as me, and as ayahuasca doesn't really appeal with it's long duration, I think sublingual is the way to explore the caapi.

thanks again

My first “spiritual” breakthroughs occurred when I began using sublingual harmalas. It may have just been coincidence, but it seems to me that the harmalas bring out a more sacred, reverent, “divine” element that is usually not part of a straight DMT experience.

I second that for sure !! i never or rarely use DMT by itself with out some form of harmala in the mix . The teacher needs to be present

I'm sure it's nice.

How long does the sublingual caapi effects last by itself? 4-8 hours?
For me, the felt effects last maybe 30-45 minutes – starting about 10 minutes after administration, there’s a calm, relaxing feeling. But as I said, after about 45 minutes max., that feeling dissipates.

However, the effects on a DMT experience seem to linger for hours. Once, I had taken a sublingual dose of caapi alkaloids, then (for reasons I don’t remember) didn’t take a DMT dose until 2 or 3 hours later. I had actually forgotten that I had taken the harmalas, and only remembered when I noticed their effects on the experience (initially noticed as a slowing of the pre-breakthrough phase). So based on that experience, I’d say that sublingual caapi alkaloids are effective for at least 2 - 3 hours after administration.

What would be the recommended method to siphon the liquid? Should I look for some siphon device in hardware store or make one myself?

And is the initial adding of 25ml vinegar same dose for any amount of caapi?

thanks again

I use a baster to siphon, and it works well.

Add proportionately more vinegar for larger amounts of caapi. I don't think precise measurements are important when adding the vinegar. It doesn't take much, and if you add excess, that's not a problem either.

What would be the recommended method to shred the vine? I have whole vine and I would like to prepare it so it would be ready for the tek(like in the picture). I've read of the hammering of the vine, but is there any other method?

thanks

But if one has neighbours, is there other methods with less noise making?
I've heard putting the vine in boiling water and then ripping it to pieces with hands. Anyone has more info on this?

Depending how thin your caapi is, you can use some strong pliers, and hold one end of the caapi, and twist the caapi with your hand so it breaks, and then use the blender.

There are some nodes (like a ball) in certain caapi that will be very hard to break though, but you can try what I just said. Im not sure about boiling whole caapi and then breaking it.

It's thick caapi, so I don't think it would work.
Has anybody tried soaking it in boiling water before shredding?

Any advice on other methods besides the hammering are welcome.

It really doesn't take much at all to hammer - go to the park with your caapi in a bag, find a rock and hammer it. I shredded about a kilo of very thick vine in 3 minutes of easy hammering. It might depend on your caapi, but i have never had any that was difficult to make useable with this method - this particular piece looked as hard as oak, but fell quickly to pieces!

(I know you said "besides hammering", but I am assuming it was due to the neighbours)

Good luck!

I use an axe or heavy knife to split it just as you would with wood. Split it into smaller and smaller pieces, then peel the small pieces apart by hand.

My mature red vine has been "shredded" into small hard woody chunks. It would be impossible to blend or twist/rip with pliers. Sitting out on the back step with "das caapi hammer" is in fact the method of kings.

What's the estimated amount of lye or sodium carbonate one should add if extracting about 100g of caapi? Or is it always the same 5g per 50ml(lye)?

I've read also that if one uses sodium carbonate one should add it twice the amount one would use with lye?
