Cutting this guy down was such a waste ( bought it as kk242 ). Ive read it makes for good grafting stock...so at least there are the pups. And a tip. sigh, It was soo big and pretty. I bet it would have flowered soon
That is the same cactus from my avatar. I think I took the other pic a couple months ago. He had a major growth spurt. Other things have stalled out a bit. I mixed in some compost shortly after I took this batch of pictures.
Madcap you have mad cactus cultivation skills. I love the fotos. I have a tall slender San Pedro that has been indoors it's entire life. Its about 4' tall.
Can I just cut pieces off and plant them on their side like you did?

You can put them on their side, or stick them straight up in the ground.
After you cut them, allow them to scab up for a couple weeks or more before you put then in soil. No water for a while. Until roots start o form. Could tak a couple months.
