i have not read the 'spirit molecule' book yet have had a look at it, it is very large i am looking to purchase it soon i have the dvd.

i was wandering does any one know what type of DMT is released from the Pineal gland?

also do they know, is the Pineal gland always active a little?

and is it fact that the Pineal gland is active at 48-49 days conception?

cheers, plrrrrrr.

According to Strassman in 'The Spirit Molecule' as well as in his chapters within the book 'Inner Pathways to Outer Space' there has been no definitive evidence that the pineal gland is the source of endogenous dmt. There has been no studies or experiments that have been able to prove it one way or another. At present, there is only speculation.

The Spirit Molecule is a very fascinating piece. It's definitely worth getting it, I've finished it in 4 days I think, it's that interesting. Lots of new information (to me), and lots of extra knowledge I found so useful for my own personal journeys.

...however, research is always welcome in finding out more about the inner workings of DMT. Personally, I find this pineal theory pretty logical (from a layman's POV), although not even close to being complete. The development of the pineal in human beings, as well as the role of the pineal in the human body, fascinated me over the head. Precisely this:

The Spirit Molecule said:
The pineal gland is unique in its solitary status within the brain. All other brain sites are paired, meaning that they have left and right counterparts; for example, there are left and right frontal lobes and left and right temporal lobes. As the only unpaired organ deep within the brain, the pineal gland remained an anatomical curiosity for nearly two thousand years. No one in the West had any idea what its function was.

[...]

The human pineal gland becomes visible in the developing fetus at seven weeks, or forty-nine days, after conception. Of great interest to me was finding out that this is nearly exactly the moment in which one can clearly see the first indication of male or female gender. Before this time, the sex of the fetus is indeterminate, or unknown. Thus, the pineal gland and the most important differentiation of humanity, male and female gender, appear at the same time.

The human pineal gland is not actually part of the brain. Rather, it develops from specialized tissues in the roof of the fetal mouth. From there it migrates to the center of the brain, where it seems to have the best seat in the house.

Logical or not, unless demonstrated, these claims are only hypotheses and speculations and not much more.

FWI, Strassman really stacked the cards to his advantage when "selling" this idea. Be wary of this, since he lets you know only what it supports the pineal notion. And besides, it's a layman's book not a scientific publication (where such attitude would be criticised and corrected).

There is no direct evidence that states the pineal gland stores or excretes DMT. Im not sure if its still there but you tube had the video documentary for the spirit molecule, it was broken into about 4-5, 20min sections, but summed up the book pretty well. I read the book too and of course that's the better way to go.

Until the theory IS complete and is demonstrated and proven, I look at it like any other hypothesis. It does SEEM probable, but then again there's a WHOLE LOT we don't quite understand about the human brain, so what seems logical doesn't necessarily mean it's the truth.

Pineal Gland or not there IS DMT in the human body

They've had a great difficulty proving this too! What they know is that the chemical compounds that MAKE UP dmt exists in the body. But that's like saying u have a tank with hydrogen and oxygen in it, so you must have water. Not necessarily true. Whenever a scientific publication is written, reviewed, scrutinized, and accepted that shows this to be the case, I'll be as excited as everyone else about it!

western and northern blot analysis shows bands corresponding to INMT isolated from various peripheral tissues in humans

so this supports what i said earlier that the 'ingredients' are there, but they have yet to find actual DMT? forgive me for being a layman on the subject.

correct.

the KEGG pathway shows a direct path from tryptophan to NMT, in two steps: decarboxylation from AADC (aromatic amino-acid decarboxylase, EC# 4.1.1.28 ), and N-methylation from INMT (indoleethylamine-n-methyltransferase, EC# 2.1.1.49, using S-adenosyl methionine as a co-substrate). It's likely the latter step occurs twice, to give DMT, but this has not been shown in-vivo, because MAO in epithelial cells mark it (oxidation) for degradation.

the KEGG pathway for tryptophan metabolism shows parallel pathways for serotonin--> melatonin, and acetyl-melatonin, thus production of these products inactivates production of NMT and DMT, and vice-versa. We've evolved a metabolic tendency to favor the former products.

finally, the proteins which would produce DMT are concentrated in peripheral tissue cells, i.e. the lungs, adrenals, heart, and muscle tissues.

so in conclusion, the proteins which would produce DMT are concentrated in peripheral tissue cells, i.e. the lungs, adrenals, heart, and muscle tissues.

forums really are an amazing thing! thank you for breaking it down for the rest of us. it's wonderful to know that there are people from all walks of life (including high intellects such as yourself) interested in these topics and posting here on these boards! It definitely allows for multiple perspectives which is for the better of all our understanding :)
