The batch of MHRB I've is almost entirely powder, is this going to affect my straining when doing the acid cooks and sieving off the juice?

The last A/B, my first, I did was much more fibrous but I could have filtered the juice better, it feels like this batch is going to be a pain!

I'm doing 2 or 3 Freeze / Thaw cycles on this and currently have it wetted up with water and vinegar in the freezer, probably get it in the slow cooker at the weekend.
500g MHRB + 250ml Vinegar and 600ml Deionised Water this was just enough to get it thoroughly wetted.

You can leave it standing for like half an hour then slowly pour it through a cotton cloth leaving behind the sludge, no need to get every last drop as you'll be doing more boils/washes. And then wash the cloth into the pot for the next boil. If your pot is not so pour friendly, pour it first into a more appropriate container like a bottle.

You can then let the collected liquid stand and pour through a finer filter again leaving sedimentas behind. Once the top liquid passes, you can then pour the sludhe and wash it with water through a filter.

Fine powders will quickly clog any kind of filter that's why I think it’s best to not pour it through a filter.

I'm really not sure freeze-thaw cycles are worth the energy, going from member's experience on this site, especially with powdered bark.
Anyway, I would just plan on taking a few more days than anticipated for the extraction, and allow the tea to settle overnight before each filtering. It really is quite satisfying, in the morning, seeing the lovely layers of work gravity has done while you were sleeping.

Why filter it at all? I always use powder and have never needed to filter it. What's the purpose of filtering?
Some people say that it helps preventing emulsions but it's not clear whether it's true or not. At least when I filtered it (working with shredded bark) I still got an emulsion.

Also if using a separatory funnel filtering becomes necessary.

But yes for the typical dmt extraction paths filtering is unecessary.

emulsions ..seem to be a problem when old tek or vids say to shake the soup hard ,,, bad idea ha

Thanks for all the feedback folks much appreciated, I'll pour carefully and I'm already set up to be able to filter better than on my first extraction with a bigger sieve and some straining cloth / nylon mesh bags etc.
I see the Freeze/Thaw as an aid and not a waste of my time because I have time as I don't have to watch it Freeze or Thaw while I'm sleeping or at work! haha. I'm in no rush, so if it increases extract only slightly thats cool, if it has no discernible effect then that's also fine.

We have never filtered our powder mix. We put 100g MHRB powder in an 1L Erlenmeyer flask with 150G soium hydroxide that has been dissolved in 750ml of water. Leave that work overnight., Then we add the naphta, shake shake shake your booty, let it sit overnight (be carfeul no to shake it at all before your pull), draw the naphta with a pipette, put in pyrex plate then freeze, add more naphta, repeat, We get 4 to 6 pulls consistent, and we avg 2 to 2.5g per 100g MHRB. We reuse the naphta over and over. When the pulls are no longer worth it, we put the sludge in a bucket outside with some vinegar to balance out the PH and dump it in the compost. We never filter. We have also tried water washing and recrystalizing, but neither seemd to improve the product in any meaningful way. The 5th pulls are sometimes a little 'chunkier' so we usually add the less gorgeous stuff to some alcohol along with any left over bits and we dump it into weed to make changa. Note: I have not yet ever tried our changa. But after so many extraction's leftover added, I can imagine it must be suuuuuuper strong at this point. Maybe even too strong.,..hahah. Anyone wanna guinea pig it for me?

Put it in the fridge when you let it settle overnight. Cold helps gravity separate the particles. But yea I would personally skip boils altogether and do a paste tek like doubledog suggests.

I'm not going to have time this weekend so I'm going to leave in the freezer on its second freeze til next weekend or something. I'll consider my options then.
I could could easily split in two and head towards STB after this cold-side acid freeze/soak.

Would a water wash of the Naphtha be needed for the Pulls?

Hi Qoniaq! I've just completed my second failed extraction and I'm needing to change things up. I'm working with powder and was cooking it etc. Can you describe your process of mixing in the naptha beyond "shake shake shake your booty," :) I'm seeing some conflicting views around this step. Also, the 150g Sodium Hydroxide seems about 50g beyond what I've seen most do, would you mind speaking to that? Can i add more mineral water to raise the volume towards the tapered neck of the flask? Lastly, anything else I should know about this process that you didn't mention? I'll give it another go once i get a bit more informed. Appreciate the insight!

A bit late with a reply here, but… Not strictly speaking, although it's good practice to put your pulls into a jug on their way over to the precipitation dish, and that jug might as well have a bit of water with a pinch of sodium carbonate in it, which will help with catching any stray droplets of base soup that may have snuck in.

I've still got this stashed in the freezer, on its 5th Freeze/Thaw.
I'm tempted to throw it in the slow cooker overnight then split this batch and freeze some again.
