Plastics to avoid with limonene, and.. veggie oil?

SWIM printed off Q21's tek, because he lacks the internet at home, and gave it a whirl. In the tek, it seemed that plastic containers and the like were being used with no concern, so SWIM did the same. Of course, now that SWIM comes on here to follow up on how his technique could be improved, he finds others saying that Q21 has a reputation for being rather careless about the health safety of his procedures, and now worries that there may be plastic in his result. SWIM wonders if dangerous impurities/plastic, etc are bound to follow the alkaloids when salting them out?

Also, SWIM bought the limonene from a company that manufactures earth friendly cleaning products. This whole plastic thing hadn't occurred to him yet at that point, so he didn't think much of it when they sold him the solvent in a plastic container. Now he doesn't have it handy, so he can't tell you what kind of plastic it is, but he also worries that this may be a source of contamination to his product.

So the question is, are there any plastics that won't dissolve in limonene, and any particularly that do?

And one final thing- if one salts out his DMT so that he doesn't have to evaporate it directly from the non-polar solvent, is there a reason why plain old, food grade vegetable oil can't be used? SWIM's tired of all this potentially health-damaging stuff, and in Canada it is extremely difficult to find supplies, let alone those of ingestible quality.

High density polyethylene.. that is exactly the bottle it came in. Very disappointing indeed, as an extraction has already been performed, but is likely a waste from SWIM's perspective. He doesn't like ingesting plastic. Thanks for the info though.

It's not certified, but it's as pure as they can get it they tell me.. 99.9%+. It came straight from the manufacturer. Nowhere on the bottle does it say 'fluorinated', so I doubt it is..

Even though their limonene isn't technically certified, it doesn't seem like they're handling much in the way of toxic materials, so I'm not sure what likelihood there is of something dangerous ending up in there. I had a look at their website and 'non-toxic' seems to be their motto.. here it is- http://www.conceptmfg.ca/products.htm. SWIM may just have to start over once again though, sadly.

Well, jimjam is asking a lot for that limo.. SWIM just can't afford that. But I see no clear indicator on this bottle that it is fluorinated, so I'm assuming it isn't, for the better safety of SWIM's body. SWIM's decided that if he deals with these guys again, he'll either ask if the bottles are fluorianted, or just get them to fill a glass bottle of his own from now on. He trusts they aren't handling any heavy toxins there, as that would seem to go against the whole ethic of their business, which is to keep it clean and natural. But then again, there are probably many natural substances being produced in places like these that SWIM wouldn't want to ingest.

We shall see.. in the mean time, a fellow Nexian has provided SWIM with enough food grade limonene to last him a while, so looks like all will be fine.. just a bit of a learning curve that SWIM had to get over before he could properly learn how to procure the spice.

I'm curious about veggy oil as well... I've read some accounts of it being used successfully to wash NP toxins off of hbwr seeds. I wonder how well it would work as a general purpose NPS.

Also, I assume that any company that sells "food grade" limo with flavoring as one of the applications would not sell it in an unhealthy container. It may be easier to get a reply if you ask how safe it is to eat their product. Whoever is answering customer emails at these places may have no idea what "fluorinated plastic" means.

many vegetable oils will probably work for extraction, but they are very non-selective, they will pull a lot of plant fats and oils and other stuff appart from dmt. But if you salt them out with fumaric acid and then do a water freebase conversion and crystallization (like the last steps of BLAB), its possible you would get some pure stuff. I remember someone using some vegetable oil but forgot what oil and where the thread was.

If you do try it out, dont forget to let us know

Hrmmm.. how about using veggy oil to defat when the goods are still in an acid phase? that should take out all the fats the veg oil would dissolve anyways. As long as the acid phase salt is not soluble in veg oil... I guess the only drawback is that you may end up with tons of nasty veg oil to dispose of. heh, unless you like bark or cactus fats in your stirfry.
