Well, a FOAF is doing there second spice extract. They are doing everything the same, they are just having trouble pulling out the Naptha layer. It has separated into two parts, it just doesnt seem that there is the amount of Naptha that was added originaly floating atop the dark solution. I have heard that you need to add more lye if it doesnt seperate, but is it possible for it to seperate but not all the way? They pulled out the layer that existed, but they arnt sure what to do now? Add more naptha and go about there buisiness as usual? Add more lye in case there is some how Naptha trapped in the dark layer? Please help!

!? What have you been 'hearning' there, grasshopper..?! ... do some 'learning' too - for eg, why are you using lye anyways, what does it do..!? !


Emulsions are no problem, nor a threat on yeild and purity. If you just add more naphtha, any dmt in the foamy emulsion layer will migrate into the pure naphtha. Then, after a few gentle tumbles, remove the clear naphtha. Every time you pull again with new naphtha, you'll reduce the emulsion while pulling dmt out of it.

Don't heat the stuff to reduce emulsions - it may work to accomplish that, but it sends lye into the yeild. Try putting it in the fridge instead...

... Are you STB'ing or A-B'ing - dare I ask ..!?
 
Well my FOAF is using powdered bark and this tek which they actually had good results with despite its simplicity, the tek is as follows. The FOAF are not extracting the naptha as said in this guide they are using a glass baster.

A simple 1/2 lb MHRB TEK

I've ripped a lot of this off from other teks, but this is simple:
1) Equipment needed-
1 gallon plastic jug (the kind white vinegar comes in)
plastic or glass funnel
pyrex baking dish
1/2 lb MHRB
1/2 lb NaOH
3/4 gallon water(tap works fine)
1quart VM&P NAPHTHA


2) The process:
a) Place the funnel into the clean, dry jug
b) Add the NaOH
c) Carefully fill the jug up to 3/4 full with water
d) cap the jug and invert to dissolve the NaOH, venting the cap after
each inversion.
e) Set the jug into a pot of cold water to dissipate the heat generated by the reaction of the NaOH and water.
f)Put the funnel back into the jug and add 1/2lb MHRB powder.
g) cap the jug and invert to mix thoroughly.
H) funnel back into jug, add apint of NAPHTHA, cap thje jug and invert slowly several times.
i) Let the jug sit for an hour, invert several more times.
j) repeat step i one or two more times, finally allow NAPHTHA to separate from the basified sludge.
K) Set the jug inside the pyrex dish. Using a sharp implement, poke a hole in the jug just above the NAPHTHA/sludge interface, and allow the NAPHTHA to drain out slowly into the dish. When done draining, dry the outside of the jug and place a piece of electrical tape over the hole you poked in the jug.
l) put your baking dish in front of a fan and evaporate the NAPHTHA, you will have quite a bit of pretty DMT crystals in the dish when done.
m) Fill that jug with another pint of NAPHTHA and repeat steps i-l.
n) wash those crystals with ice cold water if necessary(I have never needed to do this)
o) I have been getting about five grams from 1/2 lb MHRB.
*I warm my NAPHTHA by placing the can of NAPHTHA uner a stream of hot water in the sink for five minutes, I think recovery is higher with warm NAPHTHA.

I like this recipe because it eliminates the need for a separatory funnel, no acidification necessary, and I end up with a pretty clean product in the end.

Okay, the problem isn't not enough lye, it's not enough water.
Pre-powdered bark needs 1 1/2 - 2 times the water called for in a STB tek.
Add more water and agitate carefully then add more naptha and agitate and let separate two or three times.
That should shake everything loose.
You can let it sit in a hot water bath between agitations if you want - hot tap water is fine.
Despite what my friend above says, the lye isn't going to migrate into the naptha. Making lye soluable in naptha would be a feat of chemical engineering akin to turning lead to gold.
