Hi! Maybe that question was asked before- please direct me to the thread! If not! I want to make a tincture with cubensis. There isn’t much info on the internet or they differ largely! I would like to know how long to leave it in 96% alcohol and can I do a water extraction afterwards with the alcohol soaked mushrooms? Thank you so much!

Before we all jump in with suggestions, what topics did you read?, and what are your thoughts on these ?
On the nexus there’s many topics on the subject of doing extractions of mushrooms most with limited success. So what would be the objective? And with how much material are you working?

Depending on the mushroom species, a cold tincture may be ineffective and/or unstable, possibly through enzymatic activity in the mushrooms, not to mention the relatively poor solubility of the mushroom alkaloids in ethanol. A possible effective approach is to extract with boiling water, then use the everclear to fortify the tea to around 30% ABV to preserve it. Adding a pinch or two of vitamin C helps preserve it against oxidation too. It's also very important to shield it from exposure to light, which is another of the major causes of potency loss.
