😁 So a few minutes ago i was sitting in my room and i thought "why not just make some shroom tea and evap it to get psilosibin?"

Anyone read about this, or tried it before?

i was thinking you take some powdered shrooms and put in a filter (coffee filter or something) to make a tea bag of sorts. then when the tea is done you just evaporate it off. would that work? When i first thought of it i thought it was one heck of an idea xD

peace

I dont know about extracting psilosibin. personally i just drink the tea. it was just an idea, thought some nexians might like it. but if there's already a similar way with alcohol then never mind i guess :)

you can easily extract the psilocybin from mushrooms I do it all the time.
I personally prefer to use Ethanol as Methanol is toxic, but other then that there is no difference in performance I've noticed and Methanol is usually easier to get.
It is really quite easy to do and you'll find all about it here on the Nexus, however extracted psilocybin tends to oxidize at a much faster rate so needs to be stored properly. I keep mine suspended in Ethanol and stored in the freezer.

Its not really the psilocybin you have to worry about, but extracting with water and evaporating will most certainly degrade all/most of the psilocin.

And the psilocybin will not be safe from hydrolysis/oxidation, thats why most people tend to use alcohols for mushroom extractions. Even then though, unless your vac evaporating the solvent under an inert atmosphere in a dark, dry cold place, there will be some loss from degredation, both from the psilocybin and most/all of the psilocin.

Personally, i think its just not worth it. Perhaps using a dry alcohol and storing the solution in a freezer, anything else will degrade the actives very quickly. Especially using water for your solvent and evaporating the water.

i have been told that ascorbic acid' anti-oxidant properties are powerful enough to not only prevent oxidization but reverse it as well.

i cannot speak to the veracity of this statement, but one mushroom experience seems to confirm it (it was from old shrooms stored in fridge - very blue'd, i tried 2g without ascorbic, barely any effects. 2g with ascorbic resulted in mild OEV)

Perhaps, i have no reason to doubt what you are saying. To the effect it was active.

Another theory about why it was active, is that the psilocybin is much more stable than the psilocin. And while the psilocin (and perhaps a portion) of the psilocybin was hydrolyzed, there was still an amount of psilocybin in the tea to make it active, but little to no psilocin.

In any case, making a tea with water, and evaporating it to yield a goo, may be slightly active, but i would guess all the psilocin would be decomposed by then, and a significant amount of the psilcoybin as well.

With a dry alcohol you don't have to worry about hydrolysis, just oxidation. Thus you can do a much better extraction thats yeilds far more alkaloids that way, if you evaporate the solvent under the right conditions. Ideal being a dark room with a nitrogen atmosphere in a vac flask/evaporator. Using minimal if any heat to aid the evaporation of the alcohol.
