Where do yall purchase your lye/NaOH?
from the lyeguy.com? i see that the owner says that his/her lye is 97%-99% pure but teks call for 100%
what site is the best to purchase pure lye?
It's like asking where is the best place to buy charcoal from. Lye is lye is lye. As long as you end up with some NaOH then it really doesnt matter where it comes from.
Ahh, the reason that we can ignore the minor impurities of the lye is because the end product out of the brown mushy goop is alkaloid infused naphtha. the naptha ensures that the alkaloid is safely trapped and the impurities of the lye arent there. this also means that you've got to be extra careful not to pull the brown goop. right?

Easier said than done. Draino + about 20 other products say they have "sodium hydroxide" as the only ingredient. But when you crack open the container there is a bunch of colouring, metal shaving and other chems. You have to be very careful and research!
Some have a website which you can do a product chemical look-up and see just what you are getting. No one wants to smoke biproducts!
I just buy food grade lye not to have to worry about any of it. I have used the hardware store 100% lye in the past but I wouldn't use anything that was less than 100%
I got my lye from a soap making supply shop. Worked ok. 100% lye.
Here in Canada it seems they took the 100% lye off the shelves of department stores.
You can only get it at supply stores now.
Kinda like the lack of naphtha and heptane / hextane in other countries.
I was told that Roebics Drain Cleaner is 100% Lye and it also states it on the container. It's available at Lowe's I believe, though im not sure if it is 100% or if the box is just saying that.
