Question about ratios

I tried my best to search around for the answer, I apologize if I nearly looked over it.

When I see people say a 1:1 ratio for changa is best, do you want 1g of ALL of your herbs or 1g each? To make it clearer, do I want to use something like 1g of caapi, 1g mullein, and 1g of lotus to 1g of freebase? Or do I want the mixture of caapi, mullein, and lotus to equal 1g of plant material to use with 1g of freebase?

Doing a 3:1 ratio (1g caapi, 1g mullein, 1g lotus) is also not a bad idea if you wanted to have a weaker blend on the side.
