question about re-x with EA

hello friends !

Has anyone tried recrystallizing the spice with ethyl acetate?

I am normally using hexane to precipitate by freezing and for re-x. I find it efficient but, I am in the mood to try something new and I have quite a bit of EA ....

What I thought of doing, is first, dry the EA, heat it and add the spice and dilute it (?) , then, progressively bring it to room temperature, fridge, and freezer.....

I thought that someone might have already tried it and if so, I would like to know what results they have obtained, thank you very much!

It didn´t work to re-x ,, the EA could disolver perfectly, but, after 24 hours, i didnt see any reaction.
So now i'll evaporate the EA to recover my spice..

Thank you for trying this out. Good to know that freeze precipitation will not work with ethyl acetate.

Re-x only works for relatively poor solvents, especially those with a favourable temperature/solubility coefficient. DMT is too soluble in most commonly available solvents for recrystallisation to work, with the exception of naphtha/alkanes.

Perhaps you could get the DMT to crash out of EA with the slow addition of ice-cold hexane, but at that point you might as well have just used the hexane - unless, perhaps, you had the EA solution from an initial extraction.
