Question about washing d-limonene

Migrated topic.

So I finally decided to crawl out from under the rock I've been living under the past couple years and used d-limonene to extract some jim jam furmate.

Honestly, I don't know what took me so long to finally try this out but I'm sure glad I did!
Not only does my place smell of freshly squeezed oranges but I have a jar full of beautiful, long needle like looking crystals! There truly a site to behold!

I guess what took me so long to finally go with d-limo is that it isn't so easy to come by where I live. I'ts pretty much impossible as I've checked every local store I could think of that would have it. When I did actually ask people in these stores if they carried it they looked at me like I had eight heads or something...

Long story short I ordered it online. I wasn't happy when it finally showed up and the whole package reeked of oranges!!

Apparently one of the bottles leaked a bit during shipping but for the most part it was all there.

My question is about washing it to re use it again. Forgive me if this is a stupid question but like I said I've never worked with this before.

Is it simple enough that I can just take my d-limonene which now has some FASI in it and just wash it with water to remove the FASI? Then wait for the layers to separate and collect the d-limonene to use again?

If so should I wash it a few times just to make sure?

I just figured I would get the most use out of it as I can since I don't like ordering it online much and can't find it locally here.

Thanks in advance.

I wash my limo with strong fasw, and then a koh basic wash. If there's acetone or isopropyl in there a few more water washes are advised.

When re-using cactus limo I've noticed this process can substantially reduce the coloring of your limo. Works great for mimosa as well.

Note: If you want to reuse the limonene, you must wash it with pure water (basically do 3x water pulls in the limo, as the water will pick up any fumaric acid remains and specially the IPA that is now mixed with it, which would otherwise screw up your extraction if you poured the limo+ipa straight back into the mimosa mix)

As said above.. I will edit the BLAB so that it says a few more washes, just in case. So maybe do 5x water washes and it should pick up any fumaric acid and IPA traces from the limonene, then you are ready to reuse it :)

Since d-lim is lighter than water we would expect the top product in this separation to be the d-lim right? Only after the first wash i'm feeling confused as the top layer smells really bad (nothing like oranges), whereas the bottom layer smells much more like d-lim (although is very cloudy as if it has picked up the FASI really heavily).

Which one is which?!

the bottom will be water.. Maybe it smells of limo because there's some traces of limo in it and the one on top smells bad because its some of the IPA mixed in still? I dont know..

Just keep everything without throwing away until all works out well but anyways the bottom is the water

Yeah, as I thought. Just concerned about that smell. Its nothing like IPA but may be tinged with pungent bitterness by the fumaric acid content. I'll keep washing.

Cheers E!

Sounds delish. Limo was salted with FASI, then?
