Question about what would happen if a STB was left to sit a while

Someone was talking to me about a STB they heard of that was left to sit for about 2+ months. I think it was the basified sludge and the naptha layer on top. Would this naptha be usable? Would anything nasty have extracted out of it over the several months? I'm assuming a sodium carbonate wash would be used on the naptha layer pre-freeze precipitation.

Thoughts?

100% usable.

I've left naphtha sitting on top of basified mimosa wine for weeks on end. In fact, this is how I always end an extraction to get every last bit I can out of it. I'll pour 100-200ml of naphtha in the jug and forget about it for a while. I'll freeze what I pull out and toss the mimosa. It has never hurt the spice as far as I can tell.

Ah, interesting. Thanks.

SWIM pulled from the same 50-75g of bark for over a month. It never sat for more than 3 days without some movement, but no problems were found.

My sugar glider, Zoe, found that the purity degrades every day the mixture is left to sit. She prefers to do immediate pulls and always gets pure white spice. Pulls done later yield great spice as well, but lacks the aesthetic properties of pure white spice. Pulls done much later yield an oil due to all the fats. Zoe is trying to find a way to get rid of these fats before she sticks the naptha in the freezer. If any of you can help her, please let me know..!

Last night i pulled from a jar i had left sitting in my cupboard for about a month. I had left the naphtha in there and everything. I did shake the jar maybe once or twice a week. I just had a look at what i pulled from last night (it has only been in the fridge and have yet to put it in freezer)... but there are some nice big crystals forming! Yum!

DubRules, i just stick to recrystallizing to get rid of oils and fats, as it is so easy to do. You could do a carbon wash, but i have yet to try it... or you could try an A/B extraction, which will make your end product a bit cleaner than if you are doing a STB extraction.

I also read somewhere on here that before adding the lye that you can do was wash with Naptha before, shake a few times and let sit for a day and that will remove a lot of the fats and leave the spice.

I have yet to try this but will sometime in the next few weeks.

I have tried it but I think it's just a waste of solvent if you have pre-dried pre-powdered MHRB IMHO. There's not a lot of oil in there to remove. I can get very white spice from my first 3 pulls that I don't ever clean.

Just dont use any heat at any point in the procedure.
The yellow spice is just as fun, as long as it's not yellow from NaOH contamination or plant matter.

It has been recently found that some naphtha blends CAN pull small amounts of DMT N-Oxide (~73mgs per 100mL room temp solvent). The yellow IS probably partially DMT-N Oxide...fyi.

Defats DO work well, esp if you plan on heating your jug for the solvent pulls. Do a hot defat with Toluene, Xylene, or if you have to naphtha and you will get pure white pulls EVERY time.

so i talked to zoe today and she said that she made an interesting discovery. she handed out spice of varying colour to friends and asked them to report back to her with what they found. her little friends who smoked pure white spice said they had a fun time. (spice was obtained in one immediate pull from 1/2lb mhrb.) her friends who smoked a dark yellow spice said that they had never been that far into another world. (spice was obtained from three quart jars with 50g mhrb that were left to sit for a little over a month.)

case in point. white spice is great for pictures, wowing friends, or introducing to a retail environment. its not that great if you know whats up. yellow spice is awesome unless the yellow is coming from lye that was never washed out..

hope this helps!
