Question regarding posting pics...

Swim wants to post some pics of his goodies, and rather than fuck it up the first time, he has a couple questions:

I know about how to use the BB/ tags for source URL's, but I want to attach pictures directly off my hard drive. Is this permitted for newbies like myself? And if so, what's the way to go about it?
It seems like all I would have to do is check attach file at the bottom of the message box and then hit post and then I would be prompted for the location of the pics on my hard drive. Is this correct?

Is it possible to change the interface for pictures to a more user-friendly one? I would love to be able to use the IMG-tag to insert pictures wherever in the text I would like, without having to upload them on Imageshack or somewhere else. With the current system, all the pictures come at the end of the post.
