Question: Would it be better to grind the root bark myself or get in powdered form?

I originally bought shredded bark, and ground it down more with a coffee grinder. There wasn't much benefit at all really, because the bark was only a little bit finer. And it took so long to grind down and during that I breathed in a lot of dust which hurt my lungs. I'd happily pay a premium for powdered bark to save me all that. I hear that powdered would give better yields than shredded because more surface-area of the bark would be basified. Plus, the shredded bark gets in the way of the released DMT (from what I have heard)
the chunkier it is, the less likely they mixed in random riffraff in. if you are freeze thawing, hot water bathing and/or pressure cooking, the chunkiness ceases to matter. pretty much you want/need fine af for STB teks that process a large volume with minimal effort, geared towards decent enough purity. STB and dry teks have poor penetrating power. DMT exists in anatural polymerized/polymorphic state that is speculated to sometimes be very unreactive or insoluble, while bound to a solid substrate. i.e acid has a hard time soaking through and converting DMT since it kind of needs to be overwhelmed by a lot and/or very strong acid to let go quickly.

Do you mean that when doing freeze thaw cycles you can omit fine-shredding the bark altogether? Or just that it doesn't need to be powdered?
sounds cool i'll give it a go, I think i'll put my freezer on max, let it do its thing, then thaw it over a pot of hot water to speed it up
microwaves apparently are chemically beneficial as well for depolymerization in general. they cause molecules to all align or rotate which breaks weak polymer chains (dont quote me on that, but there IS some mechanism besides just heat)
I wouldn't microwave super dry bark! That's a recipe for disaster.
The idea would be to do it to thaw previously water soaked bark.

More surface area with the powderized form, potentially more oxidation. I would try and get it as chunky as possible and then do the pulverization yourself. If you happen to be privileged enough to have access to a vitamix blender, you can get the dry grains container which happens to work wonders for powderizing the bark. I have burned out a regular blender before trying this but the vitamix does the trick just fine with the dry grains container.
they make these heavy duty grain/herb grinders, basically coffee grinders on steroids, running 2-3kW through. they dont cost much either, like 50% more than a cheap coffee grinder does. no bark that has been hit with freeze-thaw cycles or a chemical leeching before being dried out again would remain solid i think
