Quick question on state of harmala alks

Migrated topic.
What do you mean evaporating the reserve liquid? Are you referring to the water washes that were done after the second basification step? As long as you let everything settle before removing the water and performing another wash, there shouldn't be any harmalas in that liquid. If there is, it would settle to the bottom and you wouldn't need to evaporate it for collection. If you evaporated those water washes you probably have a lot of lye contamination.

I would try dissolving it back into clean water. Use purified bottled water or distilled. If it absorbs into the water it is not harmala alkaloids. If after mixing it settles back to the bottom, that precipitate may be more harmalas. You can also place it under a black light once it's back in solution, and if it glows then there is some harmalas. I don't think this will be the case though if you followed the tek properly.

Edit: you can also dissolve it back into a vinegar solution, in which case any present alkaloids will become their acetate salt and dissolve into the vinegar leaving behind any plant matter which can be filtered out. Then just basify the solution and continue to wash until a desired ph is achieved.

I have had the same colored results from the secondary settlings and it's definitely active but IMO it is less active than the lighter colored harmalas.
I usually keep it separate just because I'm ocd like that, lol

Sorry maybe my wording. I meant after washing what remained in the the collected solution, as mentioned in the tek.
I am ph testing my batches, so no confusion over that.
I'm thinking perhaps I sucked up a tiny bit of plant material by accident, during the stage where it is removed?

Thanks firemetal, I'll probably keep it separate aswel. 😁
Just good to know if it's active...😀
