"rainbow tree" extract questions

a foaf was wondering in a acid/base extraction would the use of rainbow tree root bark work?? he is wondering if when mixed with the HCL is there any other molecule that will bond with the H besides dmt?? he said he isnt sure exactly what is in the tree, and he really likes to understand the chem of things, even if he dosent want to try them. he is a very curious person. so maybe a chemist on this site could provide input. thanks, peace & love

Yes, depending on the pH of the solution, there are many alkaloids that will take up an extra proton. All amines have a lone pair that will form a bond with protons in solution when a certain pH is reached. The lower you go beyond that value, the more of the molecules of that type will take up a proton and become charged. Other functional groups like carboxyl groups will also take up a proton, but only at very low pH's, as they are quite happy having a negative charge. The plant material contains a lot of different alkaloids, so the simple answer is just simply yes. This should not be a problem though, as each alkaloid is present in small enough amounts and most of them will not co-crystallize with the spice. NMT will, and most of the indoles most likely will(at least those that are neutral at the basic pH's you will be doing your pulls at.

thanks for your input. ill have to do a little more research for him, he'll probably have alot more questions, but one simple one is this. my friend knows a few meth cooks, and he said they take the white powder they get and melt it down, then let it cool. when it cools it re-crystallize, but when it does its a solid crystal and all the impurities get pushed out. my friend hasent seen any forums on doing this with DMT, and he has been wondering why. he thinks it would work but docent want to burn his product.

Well, dmt doesn't re-crystallize into a solid crystal, for chemical reasons I don't know. I wish it were that simple though
