So can I do a re-x with xylene? I believe it was pulled originally with Heptane. But I have xylene will this do the job?

What do you think is the best solvent for recrystallization?

Hexane or heptane have good DMT solubility when warm and minimal when freezing cold.

Since you suspect that heptane was used originally your options are kind of limited. If original solvent was poor quality then re-xing using a high grade solvent may help.

Low boiling, straight chain, saturated hydrocarbons are pretty much standard for DMT freebase recrystallisations.

Makes me wonder if pentane would work. Anything with less C is a gas so no go. Never seen anyone using pentane as a solvent though for some reason. Too volatile or low solubility perhaps...? No clue.
