Recommendations for scale

A friend of mine just gave me a pachanoi, and it was totally healthy when he gave it to me. However, after a few days it has developed what I think is scale. I'll attach a picture, maybe it's something else and someone will know, but if it is scale I need to know what would be good to use on it, while keeping it safe to eventually consume one day.

How's the plant doing? Looks like cat damage to me

Maybe transport damage, I'm not entirely sure what you actually mean by "scale", since I can't see any scale insects.
