Recrystal questions

I was looking for a heptane recrystallization tek on here and saw this in a thread

hmmm, SWIM just had this happen, yellow naptha, couldn't separate. SWIM decided to:
1) mix naptha with vinegar water. to remove spice from naptha. naptha stayed yellow, spice went into acidic water.
2) decant/separate the two layers, keeping the water.
3) make acidic water basic, with lye.
4) put new naptha into lye/water. and xtract.
5) 30 min later the naptha/spice in the freezer was white.

SWIM was very happy with results.

I was wondering if this was a good way to do a recrystallization or if I should just go with the bestine tek on shroomery. This one appealed to me a little more so if it would be fine to use could someone give me some ballpark amounts of solvent, base and vinegar to use? If I did this one I was just going to switch out the naptha for heptane in the 4th step.

Also, the bestine I have was originally purchased to extract cannabinoids from pipe tar/resin. It worked but I later read about how you're supposed to do an evap test. So I did the test and heptane left a hardly noticeable, thin, foggy film behind so I tossed the extract. Is that film bad or what? If so is there an easy way I could distill it without lab equipment?

I can't give you any info on the A/B reX
But a really thin white film when evaporating isn't something to worry about.
My 99.9 acetone also leaves a thin white film, as do all my other solvents. I don't exactly know what causes it but as far as I know it's now something to worry about.

yeah, heptane works it will yeild a little less i think but its fine generaly naptha is easiest to get thats why its used but dcm heptane and hexanes work just the same most non-polar solvents

just be sure when doing the acid extract to alot of pulls on the mhrb and generally after you freeze percepitate put some cotton like old shirt over the top of the jar and let it evap theres generaly a little bit more dmt in it

I think you're misunderstanding. I've already done an STB extraction and I want to do a recrystal with heptane. I was wondering if the way in the OP was alright to do it or if I should just use this tek www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11726174#11726174. Also, if the way in the OP is fine, would it be better to use heptane on the 4th step and what would be some good measurements of solvent etc? I have both naptha and heptane. Thanks for trying to help anyways.

I use 2ml solvent per gram of naphtha (stb)

That shroomery tek will certainly work. The other method is using another A/B extraction to separate the product from the yellowish impurities. In theory I think it could work, but I have no anecdotal evidence.

As for your question about bestine at the 4th step, it should be fine.
