Repeated ego deaths?

Does ego death occur each time there is a breakthrough? Or does ego death occur only on an initial breakthrough? Or does ego death occur randomly?

Have you experienced a breakthrough without ego death?

I imagine that someone who strongly identifies with their thoughts, ideas, perspectives, and personal, cultural and philosophical narratives might term a breakthrough experience an "ego death." A breakthrough experience may challenge these things, if not break them down.

That thread of awareness that you call "you" remains, however.

True ego death is what Buddha, Jesus, and other sages achieved. What you can expect is temporary ego dissolution. You get it every night in deep sleep, so I don't get what all the fuss is about. 5-MeO-DMT experiences seem to come closest to the real thing, but you inevitably come down anyway. That's why many pioneers from the LSD era went into spirituality. You want to stay in that state, not just visit for a time. I'd say fascination with ego death and breakthroughs is a phase in working with these medicines. After some time, you see other benefits or just move on. It's better to enjoy the ride than constantly think about your goal.

I'm not sure you can ever get rid of the ego. You can eventually know yourself and the world around you beyond the concepts and definitions you've been raised with – in your own terms – but you're still left with yourself, and your unique perspective within the universe.

(I spent years in my youth uprooting dogma and socio-cultural imprinting that had served as the basis of my worldly perspective... and even after several "god's-head" experiences where my consciousness reached "throughout space and time," I still came back to "me.")

Yes many breakthroughs without ego death , after time sometimes the ego gets the message and waits patiently
Outside , it doesn't like it once you pass a certain threshold . The ego is good it's trying to look out for us ,
Yes it can be extremely annoying when trying to breakthrough, it panics , It floods me with a hundred voices of caution! and my brain goes into overdrive thinking ! Untill if all goes well. silence! Your in, no more ego .
It's waiting to assist if need .

Ego is just you, so how can it disappear? It would just mean that you are no more. Some parts of it could go offline, but as long as there is a sense of "I," your ego is far from dead. You cannot kill it yourself either, because it would be you once again doing the killing. Don't mix a temporary opening in the clouds with a clear sky. They are not the same.

Yes I agree your ego can't die , it is us, its keeping us safe in this reality , it's our filter to how we see and experience this waking world .
But just occasionally we need It need to take a back seat for a bit , create a temporary opening in the sky ,
Switch the governor off just for 10 minutes.

Yes the ego is a over used misleading word , like breakthrough or talking about consciousness like we know what it is , the human language is filled with misleading words and jargon.

So why do we use these words ? I assume because we are all limited, and it helps with communication with other humans , when we say ego or breakthrough we sort of know what the person is trying to say .

Maybe we got multiple ego's , it feels like it sometimes. ?

Please don't go down that road. The ego is one and only. I replied to your post precisely because it sounded like there is you and your ego. There is only one "I" here, no matter how complex it may appear. The screen is one, no matter which movie is playing. So, you can have one dominant part today and another tomorrow. Yet, is it you or just the "movie"?

I don't think there question was about the ego
The question asked was , does ego death happen every time there is a breakthrough.?
It appears they are new to DMT and I don't think they are talking about the ego .
I think they are talking about fear , they are saying : is it going to be scary Everytime I breakthrough ?

No not always , Its the fear that he learn to leave at the door , the fear is what panics when breaking the threshold.

And if you manage to breakthrough , fear is gone .

We are all posesed by fear and courage , one will always keep the other in check .

Ego death isn't something that happens, it's the result of remembering that there was no separate self to begin with.
