Reputable Shamans in Peru

I'm thinking about going to Peru soon. I'd like to explore the amazon region in the north around Tarapoto and Iquitos.

My first question: Is pure DMT legal in Peru?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find a good shaman to consume ayahuasca with down there? I know there are a lot of charlatan shamans nowadays, and it has become harder to find responsible, trustworthy ones.

I've never tripped off DMT. Is an ayahuasca experience anything like a high-dose, snorted Yopo seed experience? I snorted yopo seeds once (bufotenine) with some lime, and I felt like my head was going to explode and I seriously thought I was going to die from some sort of traumatic physiological reaction like a heart attack, stroke or even something more unusual...who knows! I would never snort yopo seeds again. Does DMT "feel" more like a mushroom trip?

I'm just trying to get a sense, because the yopo seed experience was my last experience with psychedelics, and it made me extremely hesitant to ever consume psychedelics again.

dmt will definitely make you feel like you are dying/dead.
assuming you dose properly that is.

One thing you should understand about psychedelics is that each individual substance has its own pros and cons. Describing what DMT is like to somebody who has never tried it, is like trying to describe what sex is like to a virgin.

My best advice to you is to attempt to meet some people who are experienced with psychedelics and can give you a helping hand during your experiences. Do some more research on different types of psychedelics and maybe start off with a low dose if you are nervous and fearful from you last experience.

Going to Peru and having a ceremony with a shaman is a good idea if your interested in a safe and controlled environment. Remember that you pay for what you get. There are many different retreat centers to pick from, so once again just do some research on your behalf. The more you start asking questions and meeting people, the better off you will be.

Most importantly read up on everything and don't blindly go into something without proper insight. I have never personally snorted yopo seeds but it seems like you were doing something you knew nothing about.

Bufo appears to have very unpleasant sideeffects. I myself have felt severe vasoconstriction which manifested as pain in my legs. Others have reported extreme nausea. While pain on DMT is certainly a possibility, its still a very different experience i would assume as the "Pain" on DMT is most likely not rooted in your body malfunctioning or having to deal with a toxic substance.

Ayahuasca tourism might be problematic, but i understand the need to do it supervised so i won't judge. That being said, drinking ayahuasca in your home is a possibility which should not be discarded.

Do you need to have some sort of "intention" or "ailment" before taking ayahuasca with a shaman? Or is it enough to just want to experience whatever the ayahuasca has to offer?

I wonder you have found the answers you're searching for rudder. You have to consider DMT isn't like any other psychedelic journey. I've never tried yopo seeds (nor Ayahuasca btw, only DMT free base), but if you think it's like a mushroom trip, you gonna have a huge suprise. Hope for you it will be the good one. Ayahuasca is a powerfull teacher.

DMT is a key that shift your perception of reality forever, take it very seriously for your own well.
