You can clean the resin with Hexane. Clean your piece with IPA, filter out the solids after some soaking then add Hexane and separate in segeratory funnel. The THC + cannabinoids will stick in the Hexane and the black goo will stick in the IPA. The product will still taste bad (nothing like resin though) but at least be less harsh.

Not really worth it IME especially since you have to do an ethanol wash to get rid of all the Hexane but considering we're on the nexus I thought I'd point it out.
Also as to the potency/ difference in effects it's like cheap alcohol vs some nice vodka. Still gets you high but nothing like the clean high off good dabs (yum) or well cured frosty greens.
