Result Of Extraction

Hi,

I've followed QT's DMT Extraction For Students and attempted to smoke the result, but it didn't work. I think it was because I wasn't careful enough in separating the solvent layer and I've ended up with a brown film over the crystals. Is there something I can do about this, or do I just need to start again. I've attached a photo of what I've got.

Thank you for your help.

looks lovely, get it vaped:sick: (dont really)

You could try to re-x it, scrape it all up and put it in a glass, add some fresh warm naphtha, carefully seperate the layers, and stick it back in the freezer.

What solvent did you use? Coz I used vegetable oil and got the same screwd thing.
What? Vegetable oil as a solvent? Like as a non-polar solvent to extract from your aqueous basified mix? I musta been absent that day, Ive never heard of that. PLS DONT SMOKE THAT! Was it evapped or precipped? Man thats wierd.
Yheah you should re-x that and see what you come up with. You need to be VERY careful to not pull any of your basified soup with the NPS> dont worry about that last little layer, you wont get it. And pls use glass.
A quick search on that tek brings up several results thatr all complain of problems with it. Why would tyou use such an old and obviously crap tek when there is such a plethora of info here and on the interweb. Anyway, I gotta go to class, good luck!:)

OK, I put everything from the bowl back in the solution and extracted again, this time being much more careful to only get the top layer, however there is still a thin layer of brown stuff over it. Is it OK to use now?

good god no, that still looks grim.

I would try again.

scrape it all up, put in a shot glass (not back in the original extraction jar), add more warm naphtha, give it a good stir, and then let the gunk sink to the bottom, then pull/pour the naphtha off leaving the gunk in the shot glass. you can do a couple of pulls to make sure you get all the goodies.

what type of sucking device are you using to pull off the naphtha?

after I have pulled my naphtha I put it into a glass syringe which has some cotton wool plugged in the bottom, I then let it slowly filter through the cotton wool. Even though the naphtha always looks clean when I pour it into the syringe there is always a little discolouration in the cotton wool afterwards.

Don't worry, persistence will be rewarded.

morning godflesh,

im not sure if filter paper would work as it wont fill the space as well but you could try it. cotton wool is pretty cheap, you can get a big bag of it from the baby section of the super market for a couple of quid.

good luck

I dissolved what I had in water and extracted the DMT three times using lighter fluid and filtered it through cotton wool. There's a lot of gunk in the cotton wool, which I did save. The liquid that got through has now evaporated, but I don't seem to be left with very much. Only very small crystals seemed to have formed. I've attached a photo.

Sodium Carbonate wash and quick pull with naphtha then freeze precip... remove the remaining naphtha and then either reuse or allow to evap fully over a couple of days while letting the recovered crystals/goo dry off...

After this if still not to your satisfaction then get some heptane and do a re-x

Personally I wouldn't be using cotton wool to filter... Do a triple decant instead (I doubt much basified liquid will be left after 3 careful decants but you can always re-x after).

Was heat applied to the basified solution? I ask as I find heating it tends to pull more plant fats etc (someone correct me if I am wrong please) along other assorted goodness (depending on what you extracted from).
