Return of rotating banners?

This might be sort of trivial, but since migrating to the new forum the Nexus banner at the top has remained the same. My memory might be wrong, but wouldn't the banner on the old forum change each time you'd load the website? Was there a reason this wasn't carried over?

I wasn't a member for long before the switch, so i might be making this up, but I personally really liked the shifting artworks.

It has been implemented, and it was rather easy! I just created a new site that loads all banners in cache, puts a watcher on the image folder for new files and then randomly serves a banner when requested, it's really that simple.

i guess you already have them or can retrieve them from the old website but fyk i have the png files of all (?) the 92 banners
The current banner folder contains 96 files, though I think a lot of people made new beautiful banners that were never implemented because of me having no time anymore to grab them, check them for the sizes and correct format.

If anyone is willing to grab all usable banners and post them here in a zip file, then I'll add them all to the random banner list.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR BANNERS
  • PNG format (It will automatically convert to WEBP for faster loading)
  • Should be in the style and moral of the DMT-Nexus
  • Should include Learn, Share, Expand
  • 1380 x 138 pixels
Here is the banner thread on our new platform: Post new banner submissions here
And here on the old forum: Post new banner submissions here - Welcome discussion - Welcome to the DMT-Nexus

Kind regards,

The Traveler

This is by no means a request or a plea, but: how do we feel about allowing only non-AI-generated art as banners for the forum? I don't know why, but I get a feeling of wrongness about having the face of the forum be tangled with this artificial form of art.
To be honest I think you can have awesomely generated A.I. banners where people have poured hours and hours of hard work in it, together with filtering and other edits, and at the other side just have folks who pop in a 1 minute very poorly generated banner. Also the human made banners are also not all *ahum* of the same quality. :p

Those are very fair points. I know a lot of technical work can go into creating a decent piece of art using these models, but that wasn't my consideration. My idea wasn't to reflect on the perceived level of effort that went into a piece of art, but rather to take a look at the whole idea from a moral standpoint. And yeah, I know morality is a very grey area whose very essence is based on nuance and perspective, yet I feel like it has become a well-established fact that virtually all of these models are trained on illegally sourced artwork whose rights have been violated without any formal request or respective reimbursement of the authors.

I don't want to open this can of worms anew because we've seen where doing so leads, but this was just something I wanted to get out there and see how people felt about it. I will respect either direction you decide to take this in and will do my best to support you without judgement. <3
