Salted STB = Light brown goop is floating DMT?

Migrated topic.

I recently added salt to the black lye/mimosa/water mixture to increase the polarity, and this light brown goop came floating up to the surface.

I'm thinking that since salt makes the water more polar, it may be enough to make DMT float (if it's non-polar enough).

So... Does anyone know if that's floating DMT particles or if it's just salt pollution? If it's floating DMT, then I suggest that all STBs from now on should have salt as part of the tek, since floating DMT would contact the floating solvent much easier and should give bigger yields.

Thoughts?

Looks to me like tiny foam bubbles. This happened after you added the salt? Please list exactly what salt you used. Did it dissolve back into the soup? Have you tried heating it? Regardless of what it is, it shouldn't affect your extraction any which way. I reallllllly doubt its dropping out(floating out? lol) Just add your solvent and see what happens.

It may be an anticaking agent in your salt. Like you said about the solution being more polar and pushing the DMT out, it may be that same reaction but happening to a different particle other than dmt. I dont know much about iodine compounds but it might be that from using iodized salt. Should be harmless to your extraction, though.
