Semi-DiY Pulse-Heating transformation (based on VaporGenie Classic/Bronze Sherlock)

Migrated topic.
Yeah, i had a feeling you get bored fast.

>> I'm sorry that you felt attacked...

No, not "FEEL", i AM attacked and with support from MODERATORSHIP while there's been plenty of evidence unless YOU want to play blind. If you can't be civilized, m'well just stay out of it, the thread can wait forever and it's just not written for YOU anyway. Too bad, take it or leave it. I don't even have to be around waiting for the day when finally a guy comes who can make something our of it... I'm not going to even remember who's been nice and who's been bad. A moderator leaving troll trophies behind says it all.

If you can't be civilized
What are you specifically talking about? I've always thought inductive heating presented a viable and under-utilised option in this field and have attempted to get to grips with both your unusual style of presentation and your even more unusual style of social interaction in order to increase my chances of ever developing this method in a meaningfully practical way. In doing so, I've been forced to come to the conclusion that collaboration isn't something that particularly suits your temperament, or at least the intersection of both our temperaments.

I'd sincerely love to see these ideas of yours put into a practical demonstration, maybe even in this thread (think: @Brennendes Wasser's fabulous Lego vape tower thing). Has anything in particular been stopping you?

Ah you’re so abrasive, why would you be posting your ideas here, but then when someone tries to engage in a meaningful conversation, you just block them and act like everyone’s either too dumb to understand or part of some conspiracy against you. Are you genuinely this concerned about everyone’s intentions, or are you just avoiding a deeper discussion, with maybe some criticism, of your ideas?

...your unusual style... ... ...your even more unusual style... ... ...your temperament...

Has anything in particular been stopping you?

Yes, and YouYouMi talk as this is just more hint of HOSTILITY intended to derail, obstruct, etc. In short reversing the roles in a house of mirrors. Talk to me about Watts, Joules and Seconds instead. You may want to include grams and specific heat too if YOU really dare... You! You! You! ... Me! Me! Me! ... YouYouMi.

So, would it be correct to infer that this design being presented here lacks the technical data necessary for successful practical execution of some aspect of its function, and a level of collaborative input would be required to define those parameters to a sufficient level of precision to further the practical process of developing a working prototype?

This would require some level of collation of all the various posts regarding the development of this design. When all of the desired features are aligned in a properly defined prototype design, the appropriate figures for both electrical and thermal systems can be applied.

So, there will be an exciter circuit (for want of a better term), where the RF current is produced and sent to the induction coil. The first question that arises is whether the coil will require cooling.

Next, there is a SiC puck housed in a foldback channel lined with ZrO₂ beads. This sounds slightly complex from an engineering point of view. Will the coil be inside or outside the beads? What material should the housing be made from? Until the dimensions of this crucial component are specified, it's hard to put figures to the rest of it.

Your purpose is too clear: trash the thread, scare away all potentially motivated participants, leave troll trophies behind and wait for love points from them to collect.

Plan-B has reached it final state and been used on a regular basis for years, with plenty of explanations provided. Remove the social noise YOU make yourself to get a more complete response!

Her-hum…

Plan-B has reached it final state and been used on a regular basis for years, with plenty of explanations provided.
Where is it, then? The induction-heated model, I mean.

Here are recent publications showing half the potential (as "Plan-B") of an Hybrid Core where SiC foam is juxtaposed to a 17-Holes Metal Disc in order to include IH-driving as a future option...

So, would it be correct to infer that this design being presented here lacks the technical data necessary for successful practical execution of some aspect of its function...

No, such over-simplified assumption would be quite false. The VG pipe being referred to as a « Prototyping Platform » for a reason: this means you wouldn't have to guess the layout geometries, while this aspect alone wasn't done in a day, unlike the repeated demolish work observed here....

The "RF exciter" that i labelled IH driver already exists in many forms if we satisfy with simple basic features that all other consumers already seem quite satisfied to live with. It's the additional features which require a custom-made design, more exactly remote wireless temperature reading and tap-commands based on microphonics, combined to audible/haptic feedback. Anyone can validate estimations by virtue of fundamental laws using only a 4-functions calculator, it's been proven practical long ago to exploit the maths linking power, energy, time, mass and specific heat capacity.

If you paid attention to the last few posts on the Tempest and Tornado there's enough hint to confirm that a single disc or even a cylinder will get sufficiently hot in just a matter of seconds.

Where is it, then? The induction-heated model, I mean.

It's all in the initial post of the 1st page. What's been stopping YOU all along??

Far be it for any of us to define standards of presentation, but this thread makes for a good example of how one might showcase a contraption, both in terms of clarity and accessibility. It's particularly cool how the pieces are depicted in their fully assembled state, as well as how there's an accompanying video of it in action:

It's far easier to have a pop at replication when there's visible prior evidence of something having been carried out successfully beforhand.

And to think, if I'd've handed over €150 I could have saved mysef a lot of trouble.

Feel free to invite me to YOUR own thread of Semi-DiY options dedicated to VG pipe transformations. No need to take my word for it: experiment this all 1st hand, like when i started to focus on PinHoles à la VapMan, now replicated on so many of the most emblematic devices today - the DynaVap and its suite like Mad Scientist's Tempest and/or Vestratto's Tornado which i just mentioned quite recently...

Too bad i don't actually have access to trusty dab products in Québec. Our extracts are 70 % contaminants by law, and concentrates already concentrate everything in a flower anyway, so i prefer the natural looking gift of dame Nature, impossible to counterfeit under my 100 X microscope without raising a red flag or two.

Of course there's a few backup sources where to get the missing parts that couldn't be post here along the years, with such information warfare techniques going on you may pretend not being able to find any of it but that's not my fault.

The stuff i care about got effectively muted these last few days but i'll try to make it short & sweet.

« the Forge goes to 3500 »

Sounds like that would be Joules.

Assuming P = E/t or 1 Watt = 1 Joule ÷ 1 second

But how many "hits" on a charge? Lucky us the video also mentions this about Slide #3 (27m43s):
2 Ah = 14 hits
3 Ah = 22 hits <--
4 Ah = 32 hits
6 Ah = 45 hits

That's with Milwaukee's RedLithium power pack.

In case the formula confused anyone, always trying to stick to my cardinal rule of keeping this accessible vs independent duplication:

1 Watt = 1 Joule per second (Power = Energy/Time)

While relatively to Vestratto's Vader/Forge + Tornado we heard at 28m29s:

« We need 240 Watts headroom »

In addition, at 33m23s « preset #4 » (for the DynaVap) supplies about « 600 Watts over 20 seconds » (34m05s). I gather this is a distortion of language, the realistic amount being more like 600 Joules accmulated in a matter of 20 seconds, so that's how the Ispire Wand manages with it i believe...

Then finally:

Vestratto Tornado - 3250 Joules (2024-Aug-28) [360x550] .png

This beast with bio-availability in mind wants as much as 3250 Joules per hit, 22 of them until the charge is depleted, or 3250 X 22 = 71500 Joules; so using a DynaVap we can expect portable autonomy to get boosted slightly over five-fold for a grand total of 119 pre-heatings per charge. Considering i rated my Hybrid Core 100 Joules and there's two in a LAVACapsule that's 200 Joules plus perhaps more heat assigned to the bowl, lets say 250 Joules per puff. 71500 ÷ 250 = 286 tokes on a single charge, which is starting to seem appealing enough to engage into independent duplication actively! IMHO.

What could have gone wrong in this brief exercise? You tell me, eventually when YOU have your own semi-DiY optional numbers sorted out. As you go for it, try not forget the chemistry of power cells will evolve. I like to think 300 puffs a charge ain't too optimistic. Que sera, sera! Similar to manually-controlled fresh air injection paths now being found on expensive hardware finally rendered Bi-Energy compatible, etc...

Good day, have fun!! ☮️

Hi again,

Well, i've been made aware some significant amount of my illustrations gradually disapeared while time passed, so here's a re-upload of such old stuff actually started in mid-December 2010, over Induction Heating applied to vaporism exactly. A few date-stamps may reflect the loss of a hosting resource, others are chronologically accurate.

Lets initiate this present diaporama with an MS-Paint schematic representing my flat disc-shaped susceptor, nearly the size of a CD-ROM disc:
1 - Flat Screen Heater (2014-May-15) [250x100] .png

The concept was meant to fit a CD "jewel" type of box, except it relied on groves to form a triple spiral heat-exchanger as follows:
2 - NGVF - LavaDisc - Heat-Exchanger Spirale & Center Hole [300x300] .png

Fresh air would enter this maze via inlet holes located on the edge, with pure convective heat collecting at the center of a simple glass sheet:
3 - NGVF - LavaDisc - Glass Sheet Appertures, Anchor Holes & Pivot [300x300] .PNG

Adjustment was felt necessary so i added a 2nd glass sheet sliding against the previous one:
4 - NGVF - LavaDisc - Lava Shutter (Glass Sheet) [300x300] .png

The assembly could fit a CD box or even possibly exist on its own if held together using some silicone brace:
5 - NGVF - LavaDisc - Glass Sheets Silicone Bracing [300x300] .png

As for my susceptor it didn't need to be a disc neither; tiny SS430 balls might have been a viable substitute, as long as such workload could be supported by the IH driver - shown here encapsulated in sealed glass tubes, to please the purists:
6 - NGVF - LavaDisc - Assy (2015-Apr-23) [300x300] .png

Notice how rotation of one sheet relative to the other was going to control airflow restriction.

Below this is a typical interface connector located between an IH cooker's power board and its front control panel, potentially inviting some convenient hacking if desired:
7 - Salton ID-1081 Cooktop - CN3 Signals - TinyPic oi51 2li9egz (2010-Dec-15) .jpg

My next illustration shows an alternative form of the concept relying only on 1 of 2 parts to complete an IH vaporizer (bowl not included):
8 - Thermostatic Curie-effect Fry Pan plus Heat-Exchanger system [400x140] .png

N.B.: Demeyere's 'ControlInduc' Granite fry pan was rated T<250 °C (485 °F), which implies it exploited the Curie effect...

Although my FogBong experiments involved an ultra-sonic water nebulizer the idea of controlled humidified air injection (at a tiny rate of fog addition only) still made fair sense. Regulation depended on gravity + superficial tension allowing a simple droplet of water to accumulate inside my cannabic tube and stay above its injection hole, effectively blocking it while suspended there until my next inhalation (this FogBong twist been effectively evaluated, to my delight!):
9 - FogBong! (2012-Nov-17) .png

Last but not least, here's a semi-DiY test using some metal disc refurbished from a peanuts container... It was faintly magnetizable and had to withstand corrosion so i thought it was made of SS316/SS316L. The temperature sensing had to be visual so i resorted to a small loop of eutectic SnPb solder melting at 183 °C (361.4 °F), evaluation though needed to account for such imperfect thermal interface resulting from supperposition over an improvised IH susceptor disc, located right under but not making firm contact everywhere:
10 - Salton ID-1081 (induction cooker) test [2010-Dec-21]

This was my accompanying comment:

« Experimention with Salton iD-1081 induction cooker using the 4 inches dia. bottom metal disk of a Planters "Cocktail Peanuts" package combined to Keyster 63/37 Solder Alloy (183°C - 188°C). »

The solder coil collapsed under its own weight after about 7 seconds (IH cooker time-out at 10 seconds). The unit's rating was 1400 Watts, which means this amount of energy was a fraction of Vestratto's Tornado while output power most likely beat their 240 Watts Vader/Forge - a trade-off in terms of pre-heat time, rendered viable (an eventually economic) in exchange for an A.C. plug ready-made product, suitably covered with warranty...

YMMV!

Good day, have fun!! ☮️

Hummm... It appears i'm over-due for a couple updates. Lets begin with that one:

« RF noise emanating from IH cooker, captured in the A.M. band »

My title is self-documenting, it's about converting an old audio record into video under Linux, i'm uncertain if that was really in 2014 instead of 2010 though (could have been a copy). The device heard & visualized is exactly the same IH cooker, this software's special feature is being able to monitor in Real-Time.

All attempts to obtain Power Throttling signatures from ready-made commercially-available IH drivers have failed on YouTube, possibly because manufacturers/influencers prefer not to have their secrets exposed, for example the Ispire Wand of which the "temperature" setting is actually reflecting TIME, while none of the devices even "scans" their workload as a function of temperature-dependant magnetic permeability or else... In the best scenarios all we get is a Watts output and duration measured by some timer, meaning the power stage could still happend to be Mazzilli's « Royer ZVS » controlled by relatively low-frequency Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) or similar scheme. In other words a dumb open loop with no true retro-active feedback, just a trick pretending to predict the final temperature via simple calculation, expressed in Joules when utterly lucky (ref.: my previous post of September 5)!

So, the challenge is this: include an A.M. radio into the setup and record multiple different sessions trying to cause the device-specific power throttling signature to emerge. If power level is really modulated at all then this will show visually, provided distance remains constant with no 3rd-party interference involved... Even in presence of an adjustable supply one may still be dealing with the Mazzilli topology, and/or an On/Off style of throttling as that of old bi-metal thermostats, but at least the comparison of such signatures can be expected to provide a realistic hint of complexity supposed to justify stratospheric price-tags while hacking an IH cooker from Walmart would only have cost a fraction of the expense. 14 years later the Salton model ID-1081 simply can't be found anywhere but in a flea market perhaps, yet i can confirm mine hasn't failed just yet. How long can we hope vaporist-specialized IH drivers to last in comparison?? In addition, lets not forget a table unit as mine was rated 1.4 Kilo-Watts, the Camouflet Inductor is limited to 300 Watts and that's a table A.C. device too! So why pay many times more in exchange for pre-heat times many times slower?... Where's the logic?!

In conclusion the customers need tools to free themselves from what i perceive as technical obscurantism while the nice thing with such passive RF noise monitoring is that audio recordings won't void any manufacturer warranty, only boost competition based on fairplay and honesty once a better understanding of the various offers is finally acquired, through education instead of hype.

Now lets proceed with an update relative to my LAVACapsule conceptual extension of Dan Steinberg's VaporGenie patent:
LAVACapsule Conceptual Extension by Egzoset - Creating MonoBloc Rails [680x360] (2024-Oct-8) .png

There's a couple more to post, in the meantime this present addition illustrates enlargement of the MonoBloc cavity so to reveal formation of 6 side-rails intended to lock it into place, in order to prevent undesirable rotation...

In retrospective i can finally insist on preserving alignment via the use of auto-centered tools, or if none can be found at least to proceed with coarse sandpaper (initially) while verifying progress often. There was a large 39/64" (dia.) drill bit available in a local store so i thought in my haste i'd finally finish the cavity with it... M'well, it's been a mitigated 50/50 scenario leading to one mildly-thight fit and one slack. Which is no catastrophy as i can still compensate, most certainly being able to produce a few more convincing photographs. Unfortunately all this patiently accumulated care for precision got compromized because of minute misalignment which resulted in wobbling, now rendered visible when my assembled capsule is pushed to roll on the table. This defect is no major concern in evaluating final dimensions and mass as those only vary by 1 % or so, but it's noticeable knowing what to look for. A lesson was learned that day, ordinary citizens as myself can't be expected to accomplish the work of industrials. In the past i could have tried multiple iterations but it would be too much risk for trouble in the elders house where i live now.

The other challenge i wish could be explored is related to frequency range, since this is essentially shaped as a power transmission line capable of withstanding plenty of energy up into the microwave spectrum i believe. So, even without my 17-Holes Metal Disk inside it seems possible that dielectric losses in SiC Foam alone would suffice to inject heat into its core. Que sera sera!

To me it's more likely i'll never move beyond my years-proven clean-burning butane-compatible "Plan-B", yet that was worthy of my resource in every way.

Good day, have fun!! ☮️
