Separating syrian rue leaves

Khashayar

Rising Star
Hi there, fellas.
I'm new here, as I've been researching more about DMT (more specifically, ayahuasca) recently, as I've finally found a source to purchase mimosa hostilis.
I've tried DMT in the form of freebase (smoking in a pipe, with weed -- I know, not the optimal method), and changa. But I want to try ayahuasca (or pharmahuasca, if I may) for the first time. My issue is, one of my friends scared me about the leaves that are in syrian rue seeds.
She told me that I should clean out these leaves as much as I can before grinding the seeds themselves, as they are toxic and might affect the experience.
Now, I'm not sure about this, but I would like to know if that is something I should do, as I tried to research about this, but couldn't find the actual name of these "leaves" in seeds.
I've attached a picture for more clarification. Thank you for your help.

I have a somewhat similar pondering. Since the Rue seeds are sold not for human consumption but rituals as incense I suspect that they are not tested for contamination. Like heavy metals, chemicals like pesticides etc. I'm not sure if they are harvested in the wild or cultivated.
I guess it's less of a concern if the seeds are extracted but I use them mainly for a brew.
Any thoughts around this?

Its used traditionally as incense which means its for inhalation so its not going to be very unhealthy.

That said, I do spend a bit of time clearing out the leaves and any other things I see before I am about to grind up some Rue before brewing it into a drink but it doesnt take long. I usually brew about 15 grams twice and reduce down and then disgard the seed residue, that gives me enough for at least 5 doses at a time.

When you take the seeds and put them in a large shallow dish like serving tray and shake it sideways you can sort of group them together and then take most of the leaves out. Also the leaves tend to float differently than the seeds so during the brewing you can get some out aswel.
Having said that a little bit of leave and stem are not problematic and is fine to use without concern, if you want a cleaner product I would suggest a extraction to really separate the harmalas from the rest.

This is of course not true. Tobacco has been used traditionally for inhalation and is the most common cause for lung cancer.

A silly comparison of course. Tobacco causes lung cancer through repeated frequent smoking (or other means like chewing) done with the express purpose of consuming the nicotine. This is vastly different from breathing in much lower concentrations of incense diffused into the air, usually done only infrequently on ceremonial occasions. There is no evidence that people who partake of the Aspand ceremony sometimes with burning Rue for incence have a higher incidence of any form of cancer.

It’s not the argument I’m making, 😉

I almost always to pick out the bits of grit, dried mud, other seeds and other non-esfand material, partly to slow wear on my grinder and also because I'd prefer not to brew random mud, ground concrete and what seems to resemble mouse poo. Your discretion is your own, the leaves would be the least of your concerns.

Yes, good idea. But I don't get what you mean by the last part " Your discretion is your own, the leaves would be the least of your concerns" if that reply is to my question?

Mostly to say the leaves aren't a problem, and that you get to decide how obsessively you intend to pick through a given amount of rue seed. For 1kg of whole seed going into an extraction, this would be superfluous. 5 or 10 grams being ground and brewed for direct consumption - of course.
