'Shaman' Peter Aziz jailed over psychedelic drug drink

Migrated topic.
100 pound for a ceremony in europe. I don't really think that is far off from what other ayahuasca ceremonies take. So to judge him on price, please find out how it compare to other providers. In Peru, several of the well known ayahuasca retreats take about 500 dollars per week and that in a country that has is much cheaper to live in and has a MUCH lower income level than the UK.

Checked some emails I have gotten from a mailing list with ayahuasca ceremonies etc. The price level listed is about the same.

I'd love for the price of these ceremonies to be lower, but I'd hardly say it is grounds for putting someone in jail.

-Understood, Dagger.
However, this guy has a very dodgy website, and it looks like a complete load of rubbish to me. He broke the law by supplying a controlled drug in the UK. In Peru, Ayahuasca with dmt admixture is NOT a controlled drug. He could have just given Caapi, but he also added Chakruna containing DMT. It seems obvious to me that the authorities were on the lookout to get this guy done. And these illegal ceremonies were chosen as a way. Whilst i can understand personal choice to do so oneself, i do think it's wrong to do this as a money making business, because then it becomes a money making activity for him who is doing an illegal act, and also endangering other peoples legal position, and rights should they become ill, etc.

- bASICALLY he was wrong to give Ayahuasca to those people who may have already been seriously run down, and who knows-even on dangerous interactive medication. I read that one of his patients had to be rushed to hospital. Try doing a google search on this guy, and you'll see. 😉

I made a post in the CEL board called Media and Misinformation. In the UK there are resources for filing media complaints. If you live in the UK, please do this!

Do you have a link? I'd be happy to send an e-mail.

100GBP is not expensive... considering the costs you have in the uk its really cheap i think

but claiming its a cancer cure, well then youre fucked

btw, does anyone know in which countries in europe aya is completely legal?

it's up to people if they want to pay someone £100 to take Ayahuasca with DMT admix.

-However, what he was doing was effectively supplying illegal drugs for money. He overstepped the mark by not only making DMT ayahuasca, but also asking for payment. He would have been 100% aware of this fact, and shouldn't have done it.

-It is class A in the Uk and so carries a high risk. The silly man was really pushing it there, and something was gonna go!!

This is why we don't buy it or sell it, people. Never. Ever. Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever.

If you want to pay for a guided ayahuasca journey, go someplace it's legal to do so. The Nexus leads the way by NOT contributing to the downfall of legally available source materials.

Hopefully this self acclaimed shaman fool will learn from his bust. Maybe a jail would teach him.

I guess it could even be a direct punishment from the plant's spirit, abusing it like that.

Well, I don't see it that way, but whatever floats your boat. I see it as more of a direct punishment from a power structure that fears this thing intensely and presumes the right to dictate what people can and can't do with their own minds. Still, this goof has only strengthened their position and provided fodder to a scarifying media.

Sure. But if one makes a living by selling that "drug", isn't it obvious that this "power structure" will be pissed off.

That's why it's way important to keep money and entheogens such as ayahuasca totally separate for good!

Thats ok because they are both illegal, so you would both get in trouble, therefore no one flaps their gums :D

Suppose see ive never had any qualms with people selling lsd but I do with dmt, see people tell me I should sell it but then it seems like sacrilidge, I used to give it away but then realised its not for everyone after thinking everyone should see this so now im quite selective but I guess people who sell lsd have an interest in psychedelics. Acid isnt exaclty common where I am so its going to be in certain circles who are into psychs. Just the whole dmt being a commodity doesnt sit right with me for some reason, but then some people want it and some people have things I want lol

I only let people smoke it at my house generally. If they were experienced, then I probably wouldn't have a problem swapping / giving some, but that hasn't happened yet...

Ayahuasca retreats are built to capitalize on the "sensitive needs" of westerners. Its a foreign scene, therefore participants pay the gringo tax, which is extraordinary. $500 a week would be outrageously expensive for the locals income. I found in Iquitos the average curandero charges around 50 soles for a ceremony, which would be about $18.

I've encountered a few ayahuasca circles in the US, where prices ranged from $100-$200 per ceremony. I think this guys ceremonies are expensive, but it does seem to be standard.

Well, one major difference between paying to take it with an indigenous healer is you're working with someone who has lived within an ayahuasca culture their entire lives. They have a specific expertise. They're not some buffoon who decided to claim the title of shaman and start charging hundreds of dollars to brew up some vine.

I honestly think it is criminal for people to be charging for these medicines, when they're only providing a mockery of expertise.

I have encountered these people as well..but I was not convinced the 3 years spent in the amazon meant they necessarily knew what they were doing. I felt I have more experience than these guys who were apprenticed to a currandero in Peru. They were all so surprised about me already drinking ayahuasca on my own without a shaman to protect me bla bla bla...as if I need to pay some guy $300 to protect me from something I have been safely engaged in on my own for years. Sometimes I find these people are just sucking the tits of some amazon guru guy buyin it all up like they just got off the bus in bibleville. I dont want a side of dogma to go along with my spiritual awakening, thank you very much.

For some people that are new to psychedelics etc I can see these facilitated ceremonies being a more reasonable option in contrast to just sort of winging it at home when they have no idea what they are doing. I guess I just feel like I would gladly take people back to my home and sit in cermeony with them(and have) and not expect a dime from them..so what makes all these other people worthy of recieving money?

I am not against people charging money though..everyone needs to have an income in our society, it is just the way that it works..what I am against is people taking something that has exists for a very long time in a sacred context, and selling the idea of that context back to people as a fad for large sums of money. The reality though is that all these new age hipsters who are desperate to fill the empty hole that life in the west often is are like fish and way to eager to take the bait. Im sure all of us were there at some point.

Not all facilitators are like that I am sure..but when you see some guy with dreadlocks down to his ass pulling up in his lexus trying to sell you his version of enlightenment..run.

There are some things money just cannot buy. Real experience is one of them.

This wasn't about money, but the authorities looking for any excuse to teach this bullshitting shaman a lesson. His Qualifications and knowledge is questionable, and so are his services online. DMT preparations are also illegal in the UK, and he would have known this. His own fault really. However, now because of this man, DMT is in the spotlight again, and as usual being negatively portrayed.
