I just joined them, then they tell me I have to be promoted to Member before I can trade or send messages !!! So is there any point??

Yes. Usually STS promotion occurs quickly.
They ask for one of a few things: informative posts, pics to the plant gallery, or pics to the seed gallery.

I saw your username over there, and am glad you joined; please don't get frustrated, it shouldn't require much to become promoted.

I've acquired quality seeds & plants from STS members that I would otherwise not have; I assume this is the case for many.

I hope to see you around.

Seconded. People usually get promoted with just a few posts, and it can be as simple as posting an introduction and filling out the growing/wish/share (or wish only, if you're just starting) lists on your forum profile, so even people with no valuable information, pictures, seeds, etc can get promoted.

Its a generous group over there with a huge heart for preserving these species and introducing more people to the joy of growing and sharing.
 
They just ask that you put a tiny bit of effort into the community before being promoted. It is really worth it. The ammount of generosity at STS is amazing and the people are great.

Imagine this place if they just promoted every person that signed up. It wouldn't be a very nice place to be.
 
Hello everyone. There were some SPAM attacks over at STS. In an attempt to BAN the spammer's IP address everyone got banned from the forum. So if you get a message that you are banned from the forum don't freak out because it's not accurate. The admins/moderators are working on getting it fixed ASAP.

:thumb_dow i just came across sts. Hopefully it gets fixed soon. I'd like to get involved & start working towards a cacti garden.
Looks like it would be a very valuable resource.
 
I assumed I got banned for reporting spam :lol:

If someone snarfed up an IP ban that bad, wouldnt they be banned to?
What happens if even the admins are banned? :shock:
 
Also, if you are a real person who has registered at STS in the past two or three days, it is possible your account will be banned in an effort to remove all the new bot accounts. If that happens, please re-register in the coming days as we get this sorted out. Thanks! :)
 
The IP's are masked as the same one so when the IP of the spambot was banned, literally every person was banned (I think even the admins.) It wasn't that the IP ban got screwed up. Anyways, it's back online. Yay!
 
Hello anyone that may help over there at STS....

i just tried to update my email address,
and now i cannot login,
because it wouldn't send a verification email.

i would have emailed a moderator on that site,
but there is no email address to ask for help.

i'd like to not have to re-register if possible.
