Sheredded vs Powdered

Migrated topic.

What are your thoughts have you noticed a difference... SWIM just received his order of mimosa and noticed he accidentally ordered shereded. It looks like it has less pink/purple color wood than just pure powder would.

Although SWIM has thought that it might be much easier to work with. Less emultions? Less water (With powdered SWIM had to increase the normal 1:15 a bit since it was too thick)?

If SWIM can should he get a coffee grinder or something similar and grind it finer?

Grind it, yes.. otherwise it wont have as much surface area exposed to the water and solvents, so the yield wont be as good as it can be. SWIM even with powdered stuff never used more water than 1:15 (used even less already), and never had problems, but if you feel its better, then do it :)

If you are going STB, you can be a little less picky about how finely its powdered. The lye eventually breaks it down. SWIY just has to wait longer for the bark to give up its goodies.

SWIM'll try the blender. Too Bad his best friend took his coffee grinder to florida w/ him. Darn. That worked wonders on Morning glory seeds. You all soon will see SWIMS extraction thread.

swim is wondering that if he uses powderd bark then he would need more water for this but if swim uses more water for his extraction would he need to add more additional lye to kkep th ph up ??? swim wants to use 200 grams of bark
and 4 litres of water would this ratio be good 1:1:20 - bark, lye, water ... would it be best if swim uses more lye like 250 grams or would 200 grams of lye be ok ???

Don't worry about it.
Keep the bark/lye ratio at 1:1 and start with 15ml of water per gram of bark regardless and let the bark sit "an hour or so" before adding the NP. If the solution is thick and muddy sludgy at this point, you're probably using really finely powdered bark and you're going to need to add another 50-100% more water, so make sure that you have room in your extraction vessel for this if your bark is really finely ground.
You won't need to add more lye, just do not add the NP until the solution is free flowing.
Proceed as normal.

swim wants to use a hdpe 5 litre jug for his extraction but the problem is that he will use pre powderd bark from maya etnobotanicals (14) swim using 200 grams of bark is worring that as this bark is powdered and maybe need more water he wonders that his extraction vessel fits in everything or will i need a bigger jug??? using nomans tek

There was a method mentioned here a while back that involved unscrewing the normal pouring vessel from a blender and replacing it with a mason jar. Coffee grinders work, but can be somewhat of a pain for bark.

SWIY really shouldn't need to grind it further if using lye and STB, though.

I'm gonna try using the blender I just haven't had time to try it yet. I see how the mason jar thing would make it work better since the smaller volume would allow less of the bark to spin around in the top not being blended. That why I think it might not work.

You'll probably be fine.
If you're really worried about it, get a bigger container, HDPE is cheap.
