So my friend is having an issue. She's currently boiling up some mimosa, (from what I've been told from a seasoned extractor) I can't remember the name of the exact tek she used but it's the long one where ya boil a pot for 2 hours then strain it off and so on. So, I was always under the impression that once the cookdown got a certain potency of dmt, it would then kinda coat the top of the boil as the cold air would interact with it. I for one, was always happy to see this because this would mean the dmt Is ready to be pulled out, essentially, right? Of course after letting it sit and adding your sodium. But she said the boil was coated last night and when she woke up, there was absolutely zero crystals forming in the jars. I asked her if any condensation had possibly got in or something else and she's damn sure she did it correctly. I'm just kinda wondering if there's any other plants LIKE mimosa out there that get this coating I'm talking about, that don't have dmt in them. I'll add photos of both the bark and coating I speak of. Resized_20260213_223823.jpegResized_20260213_214522.jpeg

Yes, that coating is not DMT (the DMT is water soluble at that stage) but some kind of plant matter. It's not possible to know if the plant was Mimosa hostilis or not (and yes, there are similar barks, there are also weak batches) from the pictures or the fact that it showed that coating.

Could you be more specific about the steps your friend followed? It could be that it's not Mimosa or it's weak, but it could also be an error at some step.

Yes, she first completely shredded the bark, to almost powder form. Then she boiled the bark with water and some vinegar for 2 hours in a chili pot, then strained and separated the liquid into a separate bowl to condense. She followed those 2 steps 2 more times and boiled that strained liquid down to about a litre. She let it sit overnight and got rid of the gunk that collects at the bottom. Added her na0h and then added her naptha to collect the dmt. She's done it many times the same way. I'm beginning to think it's possibly the wrong type of plant, she also said it comes from Mexico.

How much bark was boiled? How much liquid was condensed down to one liter? How much vinegar was used? How did you verify you added enough NaOH? How much naphtha was used?

It was about 400grams of bark and she condensed 3 large chili pots full of water down to one litre. She added a cup and a half of vinegar to each full pot. She used enough to make the mixture turn completely black and then a little extra for good measure. Again, I'll stress, she is not an amateur and has successfully extracted many times. If the bark was real, it was weak.
