Should I/we work to legalize DMT, or is it too soon?

I happen to live in a dainty liberal college town, and I have the option to join a drug policy group that fights to end the "fear based laws" surrounding drugs. Of course marijuana and psychs for studies are big foci as of now, but the group do focus on individual drugs and give presentations on them.

I have the option of joining, and I can envision myself eventually addressing city council (this organization has done this in the past). Since DMT is not very well known, I feel as if we could work to get it decriminalized at the very least.

My question to you is: is this even worth it at this time? I would not want to bring unnecessary attention to something that is not "searched out" like some other illicit drugs. The plants can be obtained with ease and legality, and I wouldn't want this to change.

IMO, all psychs will be legal and regulated eventually (I'm talking 75-150 years from now). But at this time, when even the laws around marijuana are so tense, should I start with advocating for DMT legalization on a local level?

^^^ science has recognized psychedelics a long time ago.

I'm divided on this. We are basically in no better position than the generation of the 60's. Most people are not open to these ideas and public opinion remains just as easy (maybe easier) to manipulate.

Cannabis legalization is changing perceptions, but these things take time. I think it would be wise to tread carefully and keep amassing scientific data, now that research is once again tolerated (in some places, it even thrives).

The general public's opinion of (illegal) drug use is not positive at all. If we get out of the closet too early, we get crushed.

We live in a time of great change and increasing power grabs by major bankrupt western governments. Austerity, fatca/gatca & the end of bank secrecy, wealth confiscation, capital controls, mass surveillance and more wars.

Accepting something that has the power to dissolve the present status quo won't, I think, be simply accepted by those in power.

I could be wrong.

Recognised yes but not allowing studies and clinical trials to in turn bring it into the medical therapy system, which is what the MAPS fund raiser is about as well as The majority of the pro psych movement

Substances such as DMT, LSD, psilocybin being Schedule I (which means most dangerous drugs there are), has to be stupidest thing ever. I know that conspiracy theories are forbidden to discuss here, but I'll just say that something is quite not right here (call it conspiracy if you want).

WHO and other UN bodies know exactly what psychedelics do. They know, after reading numerous studies, that psychedelics don't have "high potential for abuse", which is f****** BS! But they're like "la, la, la... I can't hear you, psychedelics are bad, psychedelics are eeeeeeevil..."

What the hell? Why? Why are they doing this? Why is any research into these substance highly discouraged? Why are there so few studies, in spite of them being probably one of the most amazing things on this planet?

How many lives has DMT ruined, and how many lives has meth ruined? If you know the answer, then why is DMT Schedule I substance, and why is the methamphetamine Schedule II? Because meth can treat ADHD and DMT can't? That's irrelevant, just because DMT doesn't have any (recognized) medical value, that doesn't mean that it is more dangerous than methamphetamine.

And if drug doesn't have any medical value, that's not even close enough reason for me not to consume it. Seriously guys, that's the weakest argument there is, it looks like you're not even trying at all. You're pathetic, and reason why most people don't see how pathetic you are is because they're uninterested to read and understand what your laws really are.

We're prisoners on this world. Freedom doesn't exist. I won't subject to those immoral laws, because I know that they were written by people with ill intentions, and for their own interest, in effort to keep power and control masses.

Natural laws are above any human laws for me. Your try to delude me into thinking that I'm doing something bad by using psychedelics won't work. I've already seen the light.

(Sorry for this short rant).
