When creating the hole at the end of the bulb the tek says to place the bulb on the wall and tap with a pen or screw driver until breaks.

SWIM suggest sanding down the tip of the bulb instead. Less likley to break the bulb.

When building a machine...best advice is to get down to the hardware store and buy a glass drill bit ($5) will save time and breakages...
