Smoking and taking datura.

Just thought I would share a bit of info on datura
And the likes.
Do not take in what you read about bad experiences.
If used properly datura can work well.
Smoking the leaf isn't up to much but making
A tea out of the flowers are. When you smoke
The dried leaf you get a heavy stoned feeling.
When you make a tea out of dried flowers it
Is like going into a different world.
It is an amazing plant. I would advise against
Taking the seeds due to the powerful effects.

It is fairly easy to grow. Just plant the seeds in
Small tubs in march and they shoild sprout up.
They can be hard to germinate.

I have a friend who has one growing on their property so I'm interested in hearing more about it. Can you give instructions on how to make the tea. How and when to harvest and dosage size. How long does it take for the effects to come on and how long is a typical trip?

everything is about dosage, this applies to all substances, datura and any of its part is not an exception.
if you take just a few seeds of datura stramonium, I would say up to 5, it is still a small dosage - this could be used for relaxing or enhancing of dreams.
when you take 20, it could be manageable and interesting experience, but you could also loose control of it and halucinating. personal sensitivity is always important.
dosage of 50 seeds or more will be almost definitely very strong, unpleasant and possibly dangerous.
I took in the past small, medium and also strong dosages, so have some experience with it and do not recommend it to anyone in any dosage.
There are definitely many more interesting, more pleasant, more friendly and more usable plants or substances.

The flowers should be left to wither and fall off.
They should never be picked when they are alive and
Still growing.
When they have withered simply pull on them and if
They come off without to much effort they are ready.
Also if they fall off that is good as well.
After that simply dry them out.
To make the tea get a cup. Half fill it with boiling
Water. Add 1 dried flower and stir it around for about
30 seconds. Leave for a minute. Fish the flower out
And discard of it and there you have datura
Flower tea.
The effects come on quite quickly. You should feel
Relaxed and when you put your head down and rest on
It a lot of wonderful worlds open up. I think
Its quite funny. Not dangerous at all.
And there you go. Datura tea.

If I was to take the dosage you suggest, how long will the effects typically last?

Tropanes are definitely not to be trifled with. I hope someone with actual tropane experience sees this because I'm not an expert but I've heard experts talk about it and I'm not convinced that it's necessarily safe to drink datura flower tea like that. One, you don't know how it will affect you individually and two, you don't know the potency of the flowers.

I have been using datura for 17years. And you say im no expert.
It has took me along while to get it all right.
I agree. Everyone reacts differently to datura
But i have learnt alot about it. It takes awhile to get use
To it.

Nocturne, I respect the personal work you've done with Datura, and great that you find it beneficial, but again that's work that you have done with your body and your plants. I meant that one of the expert, harm reduction focused people here on the Nexus could perhaps chime in, because recommending datura tea doesn't necessarily seem safe to me - if I'm wrong then great.

I have very bad experiences with datura tea. Maybe one flower is a relatively small dose. But don't take much more than that.

If you take too much, you'll forget that you've taken something. You will seriously hallucinate for more than 24 hours. And totally lose your sense of reality.

Datura is something that, unlike LSD for instance, CAN realy make people jump off buildings because they believe they can fly, when enough is being taken. It is also highly unpredictable.

I would like to add that those under the influence are highly suggestible. For this reason, the plant is often used by so called “dark” shamans. The margin for error on dosage is incredibly small, and therefore NOT safe. This one is best avoided in my humble but strong opinion.

Playing with tropanes isn't recommended.
At least you, Nocture, seem to keep the dose low ( one datura flower seems reasonnably low - which is crucial to keep yourself safe ).
The risk here is ( and I've been there ) when using it orally, to hav a weak batch and being use to a certain dose, or being willing to up the dosage thinking one is in control. And on another batch being catapulted.
Happened to me once and on a different batch of brugmansia ( I used suaveolens first, then sanguinea from the andes ), I knew this and decided to take TEN TIMES less the amount of leaves in tea. Well it was still way stronger than expected.
At least after this, I decided to keep either extremely low dosage ( like 5 seeds max orally, often at bedtime to promote sleep and dreams ), or like smoke a bit leaves or snuff a little of flowers..

All in all, some poeple build a relation with the plants, but I've seen also two friends who regretted it afterwards, and had like trouble with nightmares at night and other psychological problems. One seemed to loose it, and wanted to die, but had two kids, so she was hesitating for that..

All that to say, I'd suggest most poeple who wish to have entheogenic experience, or trip, to use SAFER substances, such as Psilocybes mushrooms ( which grows wild nearly everywhere, so you can learn well to distinguish and go hunt them, or grow them from kits or spores ), LSD, DMT with or wihtout harmalas ...

After twenty years of psychedelic and various drugs exploration or contemplation, we would many to NOT advice newcomers, or even experience users to use datura and brugmansia plants to use it as a psychedelic mean.
SO not saying that for you Nocturne, and you seem to do well. But just stressing other members here to try it- and I know it can be rezlatively easy to find growing in wasted land, and grown in gardens.
It is much more rewarding to grow musuhrooms and avoid deliriant effects, and st
rong body toxicity of higher doses of tropanes - tropanes in higher doses stress the heart, can impact the brain negatively. SOme poeple I know went blind for sometimes, other had years to come back to control over their mental health...
