So.. Why do we have a facebook page?

I won't even explain why this is such a horribly bad idea, as I know the vast majority of everyone here can already understand why it needs to be taken down.

For those of you who do not have a, Facebook page, it is a link leading to a public (compared to private), "group" who's 15 person fan base shows open support toward this website.

Geez...how could they make that and not even throw trav or anyone here an invite!

Seriously though to those with a facebook; is there anyway you can find out who made the account and give them a link to this thread? Hopefully they'd take it down after realizing the possible consequences for its fans and this site.

And lo, another door is opened for the tidal wave of idiots to flood the hallways of hyperspace.

Not only sad, but stupid too, alas stupid is the default. Given Facebook's recent privacy policies (or lack thereof), this is a really, really daft idea.

Government ploy to harvest identities?!

Sounds farfetched because the Eye of Mordor may not be upon us, but when they want to catch someone they can get creative. In the UK they contact relatives of people on the run and pose as competition organisers, telling the relatives that the fugitive has won a competition. The fugitives all turn up to claim their prizes at staggered times, and duly get busted one after the other! Social networking makes tricks like that even easier.

More Social Engineering than Social Networking. Social Networking means meeting your mates down the pub or for lunch, or coffee.

Facebook is Social Engineering and it's not you doing the engineering. I'm in the business of mining data, and Facebook is just packed with infinite, delicious data, the likes of which we have never known.

Im not on facebook so i dont know how groups work, but cant someone contact whoever started it? And just let them know how the actual community they are representing feels about this.

Facebook can even sell the governments of the world access to the information on facebook. Shit loads of data there. It's possible to analyze most of the users there on quite a deep level based on the info they share there. You can read peoples personalities and see their political views, tastes in music, food, and just how they think in general.

That's all probably true, but how would this facebook thing damage the nexus? I don't see how they could find about the identity of nexusmembers, except for those who openly say on facebook they are.
And most people don't even know what DMT is.

It's still odd though, that someone started this without the permission of the traveller. It's a bit like identity theft.

I got this, I'll contact them and see what's poppin with this unendorsed social network flaunting of the Nexus.

PLEASE POST THE ISSUES YOU HAVE WITH THE NEXUS BEING ON FACEBOOK AS I AM LINKING THIS THREAD TO THE GROUP AND WOULD LIKE FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO READ THEM.

peace

If you are good at online detective work it isn’t hard at all to find people’s true identity with Facebook and most other social networks. I don’t use my real name there but that only stops the least inquisitive from identifying me.

This is really a storm in a waterglass. The Facebook group have no impact at all to us. We are visible high in Google on a broad range of keywords, thousands of people come in here through that. So what if a few people find the site through Facebook?? The only people this group may be bad for, is the 15 members in it. It has no impact at all on the community.

Even if this is the case, and let's assume for argument's sake that it is, the DMT Nexus is our "brand name" so to speak. If we don't want it somewhere, that is the community's or Trav's decision. WE are the Nexus and if we don't want it represented or advertised elsewhere, I feel that we have every right to contact the offending individuals and let them know how we feel about it.

As with any video's referencing the Nexus, the real issue is not the tie in between DMT and the Nexus, as you yourself pointed out, we are THE reference for DMT on the web. We come up in the top three results for almost any google search related to something on here. The issue here, as with youtube videos pointing to the nexus, is that we don't want to advertise like this (or, imo, at all). If you are interested in dmt, you WILL find the nexus. We don't need proselytizers and missionaries sending people to the nexus. We also don't need an influx of new members who haven't read the attitude and treat the nexus as just another drug forum.

My feelings on the matter are that we are here for all those who actively search us out. We don't need to be splashed across video or social networking sites like the bat signal for all would-be psychonauts who somehow couldn't find us otherwise. I appreciate that members of this group are "fans" of us and support what we are doing, but it is unnecessary and unwanted.

I get they're only admitting to being fans of the Nexus, but I'd much rather have them here with us; if you want to cheer you do it from the stands, not the stadium parking lot.

This reminds me a bit of how some people on facebook and simmilar social mediasites impersonate famous people.

But the person responsible for this facebook page probably had good intentions. At least, it looks that way.
When he or she starts spreading views and opinions as if they're ours, that shed a negative light on this community it would become a totally different thing.

But you say that there are DMT-nexus video's on the web?:?
