[solved] First non-hitting hit - improvement possible?

Hi all,
tried my first 15mg of my own extract today.I used the attached convection vape and the spice in the glass cylinder (with the red top).
This was a mistake, as it vaporized to slowly: I needed to take several tokes. I felt a bit of what I know from mushrooms and lsd (the body sensation), but only if at all very little closed eye visuals.

So next I plan to put steel wool (90% filled) in the chamber, instead of the glass, then spice, then another portion to keep the powder in place.
The left is much finer but not stainless (have ordered stainless wool), the right is more coarse, so I fear that the liquid could drip down to the heat unit. Or is it quite viscous?

A 'dry' test with both shows: there is not much difference regarding resistance to airflow.

What do you think, is this a waste of time / spice or may I be lucky with this improved setup?

for the steel/copper wool the coarse one is better, and you need to burn it red hot in a flame to make sure you burn off any bad stuff on it, the fine one might possibly burn completely. it is better to pre-melt the dmt into it, it will absorb the dmt and won't drip down, you only need a piece big enough to hold the melted dmt. I don't know if it will work with the vape setup you got but these are the recommendations for using the metal wool.
 
I made some tests regarding temperature control (without substance):

I removed the screen from the upper seal, such that i could stick the temperature sensor through:

placed it just a bit into the steel wool.

The temperature without airflow rises quickly above 50° (I read spice should start to melt from 44°-50°),
So no need to melt in in first I guess. Just place on top, power on and wait 20s or so.

I did some test with blowing from below first, then with usual tokes.
One can finely adjust effective temperature with temperature setting and airflow.

I'm even thinking to let the probe in for the next test with spice, perhaps covering the upper part (above the probe) with aluminium foil.
What do you think?

Having found and read the micromachine thread I think one could opt for the setting which produces ~170°C (I read that best temperature is 160° - 180° for generating vapor) with low airflow. By this one could inhale longer. This should allow to vaporize quite a bit.
 
I got the stainless steel, burnt it red hot and after a few 'dry' tests ended with the following setup / procedure:

  • filling the lower one third to half of he chamber with the fine and the upper with the coarse wool
    (with only fine wool i was afraid that the air stream is not equally distributed; the idea is to melt the spice on top, but in case it drops down it will get held back by the fine wool.)
  • T (which is at the convection element) set to 220°C
  • power on to heat the wool just above 60°, then power off and let it cool down
  • below 55°C i distributed the spice on top and it melted well
  • (after some preparation) power on and inhaling slowly to bring the effective T to 170-180°C and keep it there (measured from above as shown on the photo)
I had 10 mg (after reading that some have full breakthrough with only 20 mg when achieving one hit vaporization I wanted to be careful), and it worked well:
short after starting to inhale I had dense vapor, felt the body effect quite immediately and could slowly and continuously inhale (no harsh stuff).
I stopped inhalation after 1/2 or 3/4 of a full inhalation as I felt no more vapor is coming.

And there I was, having a glimpse at the utterly unspeakable. Only approaching the door to the waiting room. During the ascend I was thinking 'man, this comes-on fast and strong, was 10 to much?'. I clearly felt the approaching of the top of the parabola and beginning descend, then thinking 'I should have taken 15' 🤣.

No harshness, no lingering bad taste etc. as it was with the glass cylinder.
No headache (which I usually have with beginning ~2h after coming down with other tryptamines *1)

I made a test later on with the vape: there was really no substance left on the wool. So with the fact that it did take only 1/2 of a full inhale I think this could be good to vaporize a breakthrough amount in one inhalalation.


*1 This effect seems 'scientifically known': Psilocybin dose-dependently causes delayed, transient headaches in healthy volunteers - PubMed , but no counter measure was discussed. For me it is usually clearly dose dependent. If anyone knows of what might prevent the headache I would be grateful.
 
15mg test this evening.
I could inhale for 50s and think I got almost all.
The bodyload was quite strong, much stronger than with 10mg and stronger than everything I had with other psychedelics so far.
Could put stuff away before it hit fully, although everything warped already.

Last time i had some white pattern and i was happy with it, because with other psychedelics i do not have intense colors as others report.
This time it was basically black with some pattern like scratches (as I have with mushroom onset), all 2D, and more sudden changes (no dynamic morphing or so).
A bit disappointing in relation to the bodyload... :unsure::ROFLMAO:
