Hi nexians,

Here's some pictures that might help you figure out if you're on the right track with a rue extraction.
The first picture is right after the first base. I thought the solution was filtered well but apparently there were still a lot of plant material left with the alks.

the second picture is about 12hrs later after everything has settled.
the third picture is after the 5th A/B and the last picture is after it has settled.

Everyone will find out their own way of doing things like rotating A/B with manske to purify their harmala.

These pictures were a result of using Melcats Tao, Endlessness Harmalas Extraction and Separation Guide & Gibran's Easy Caapi.
Thanks to Rivea, ouro, dreamer042, Sands, Snozz and anyone else i forgot :)

Hope it helps someone new to harmalas extraction!

Hi Lichen,
Yield was 2.5g from 200g of GRINDED rue a measly 1.25%.

Unhappy with the results- Here's some pictures of a 2nd extraction WITHOUT grinding the 200g of rue and no manske. The results were 4g or 2%-

2nd base- 5th base pictures.
Big thanks again to Rivea, dreamer042, ouro & everyone else

Hmmm, do you recommend to forgo the grinding? Is this why your yield was so low, or do you think that the seeds had a low % of harmala alks?

Hi Lichen,
Actually during the first extraction, I think there was a mistake on the manske step (after the 5 A/B) resulting in lower yields.

Interesting to see that both extractions had similar looking yields after the 5th A/B.

The low yields from both extractions may be a result of poor extractions skillzzz :D

I do not understand the reason for so many A/B's, please inform me.

So far I use first A with HCL, then basing with NaOH.
Multiple water washes till ph is 8 or below.

Second A with phosphoric acid, then base with NaOH.
Multiple water washes with water till ph is 8 or below.
I don't think there is any NaOH left being harmful, I hope so, is it?

That's it, only 2 A/B's and I'm very glad with result, last time gave 5.25% yield.

A fellow nexian gave me this idea.

To my understanding, it should give you cleaner harmalas- look at the change in color after each base. Also I did filter after re-acidifying and there was always some plant matter that got filtered.

To me rue extraction is like making a cup of coffee- So many ways to do it.
I wanted to put some different pictures up that most teks/ threads don't have.
