Migrated topic.
are you having any troubles or is this running ok for you?

because it seems like you are doing fine...

Anyways, you didnt post any quantities like amount of water/bark/lye/naphta, which are important for people to give you advices.. Also, what method of retrieval of crystals are you going for, freeze precip or evap?

SWIM utilized 1/2lb of bark, 120g of NaOH, 1L of water and around 230mL naphtha on the first pull. This was washed with the baking soda method outlined here. SWIM pulled the top layer off the wash then evaped some of the naphtha off the top, and put it in the freezer for freeze-precip. Any input would be great!!

Seems like too much naphtha per pull.. when SWIM was still STBing, he used at most 150ml of warm naphtha per pull per 400g bark (just under a pound I think).. Otherwise as SWIY is doing, it will work but its so much naphtha that it wont be very saturated, and freeze precipitation wont work well, very little of whats actually inside will precipitate (or SWIY will have to pre-evaporate much before sticking in the freezer to get all the crystals out).. So dont throw the naphtha away after freezing, either reuse it or evap it till the end to see if there is anything still dissolved in it.. And maybe next time do smaller and warm pulls.

good luck :)

SWIM thanks you. SWIM also did warm pulls, utilizing a warm bath method to separate the layers easily. However, it still seems too much solvent was used and you are right, SWIM thinks she might pull the freeze-precip jars out and do a 50% evap with a fan and then re-freeze precip. Does that sound alright, or is something in SWIMS logic flawed? SWIM now thinks a bit too much solvent has been utilized...

P.S. - SWIM heard final crystals are more pure using the freeze-precip method over the evap with a fan method. Is there any truth to this, seems to be people on both sides?

By evaporating all the solvent off with the fan swiy will be left with some oily plant garbage and some spice. Freeze precipitating for 48hrs will yield very very clean white spice, the oils and shit will stay trapped in the naptha.
