Hello fellow Nexians, I bear news about the candyhuasca™!
TL, DR: it works, it's simple, it tastes bad no matter what you put into it, but better than rue tea and mimosa brew. It's handy because it stays put under your tongue, though.
Soooo... A brief recap: I had 1.6g of DMT benzoate left after converting 2.5g to citrate for vaping in e-cig, and I wanted to make some candies together with harmalas for mild sublingual ayahuasca, more like priming for extended vaping sessions. The way I conceived it, executed it and bioassayed it is convergent with this view, but the idea is scalable to larger doses and lends itself to pharmahuasca-like experiences.
Last week I extracted some harmalas and ended up with roughly 7.2g of HCl salts and 5g of freebase (from 200g seeds). I decided I wanted to make harmala-only candies with the HCl salts for better solubility and harmala+DMT candies with freebase harmala and DMT benzoate. In the recipe there's quite an amount of citric acid though, so nothing is really freebase in the finished product.
I chose 40mg harmala HCl (34mg freebase) as a dosage, with the idea of cutting the candy in half for milder/shorter vaping sessions, or keeping it whole for >1 hour and/or adding DMT sublingually later.
I went with 30mg harmala freebase + 40mg DMT benzoate (24mg FB) for the actual candyhuasca candies, with the same idea of modularity as above.
The way I envision it is, if we call the harmala candy H, the combo candy HD and vaping V, that you can have multiple "levels" with varying intensity and duration.
For example:
Level 1 = 1/2H + V = 30-60 minutes super manageble experience where you decide how much to vape.
Level 2 = 1H + V = more of the above like 90 minutes, slightly deeper.
Level 3 = 1H + 1HD + V = on the edge of vaporhuasca toward pharmahuasca.
And so on until you reach 1H + 4HD (~150mg harmala + 100mg DMT) that qualifies for an involving journey.
RECIPES for 40 pieces:
Harmala only:
-45 g of sugar
-7g of corn starch
-10 mL of raspberry syrup
-5 mL olive oil
-400mg menthol crystals
-800mg of L-arginine
-2g of citric acid
-1.6g of mixed harmala HCl (more if only harmine?)
-15 mL of water
-5 mL ethanol
Mix the sugar with the corn starch in a breakfast bowl until homogeneous, add your raspberry syrup (or whatever flavour you fancy, it's a bit pointless because the end result is bitter anyway), the olive oil and mix well. In a shot glass or similar dissolve your harmalas in the water, add citric acid, dissolve and add the L-arginine. Once ready mix with the rest in the bowl.
Set your microwave to 700-750 watts and heat the mixture until it bubbles in a way that tells you the sugar has caramelized. I do 30 seconds bursts and observe how the foam/bubbles settle, when they do not settle right away or in a matter of seconds, it is ready. While you do this, dissolve the menthol crystals in ethanol.
When your candy dough is ready place it in a double boiler, quickly add the mentholated ethanol while stirring and with a teaspoon transfer a gullop of dough on parchment paper. Don't make them too big, you need 40 of them and you can always go back and add on top, they're not going to be pretty but function over form right?
Harmala + DMT:
-40 g of sugar
-10g of corn starch
-10 mL of elderberry flowers syrup
-5 mL olive oil
-400mg menthol crystals
-800mg of L-arginine
-3g of citric acid
-1.2g of mixed harmala freebase (more if only harmine?)
-1.6g DMT benzoate (or any other salt equivalent to 1g freebase)
-15 mL of water
-15 mL ethanol
Proceed exactly as before but this time use the ethanol to dissolve both menthol and DMT. It might need some heat like 15 seconds in the microwave, DO NOT add the DMT before caramelizing the sugar mix, add it once you have it in the double boiler. The excess ethanol is going to boil away in a matter of seconds.
Strikingly they became both the same dark purple color despite elderberry flowers syrup being light yellow.
They solidify to a hard candy and the best thing is to store them in a jar with a 3:1 mixture of powdered sugar:citric acid for coating them. I put mine in the fridge.
They taste like the actives they contain, not pleasant in the least, but they stay put under the tongue for more than 10 minutes and a quick rinse with some acidic juice cleaned my mouth with no discomfort left. In a proper tin box they are stealth and one can carry a shitload of fun with just what looks like homemade lozenges and a e-cig pod.
I bioassayed levels 1-2-3 and can confirm they work very well. If one has a silicon mould for gummies/candies it would be even better, it is sufficient to calculate the total volume and multiply it for 1.3-1.4 to have a rough estimate of the amounts needed. My recipe is for 1.8-2 mL each candy, so if you have 2mL moulds just increase by 5-10% the non-active ingredients and you are in the ballpark.
Hope this inspires some experimentation.
