SWIM did a STB extraction on 1 lb of mhrb using ace vmp naptha and lye. 1 lb of lye was used and the basic solution turned to a blackk goo once mixed. when the naptha pulls were done the solvent layer was extremely dark on the first pull and more orange-y on the 2nd 3rd and 4th pulls. a polar wash and epsom salt dry was done and then left in the freezer to precip. the spice that came out was slightly orange and after drying became pale tan and powdery. it weighed out to about 3.5 grams and about another gram or so became an orange goo before it dried. this had happened on swim's previous extraction which was his first and was solved by dissolving the goo in ethanol and evapping which yielded pure white crystals. the pale tan powder gave total dmt like effects when swim tried it but i am worried that the powder consistency of it might be because of some solvent still trapped in the particles of it. i ama aware it might be dmt n-oxide but if this is the case it is not such a big deal b/c i hear it becomes nn dmt when vaped anyway and it sure seems that way from swim's experiences. does anyone know if the powdery dmt is because of impurities or just simply n-oxide, or even just some dmt that needs to be recrystallized?

Probably n-oxide, or some plant oils. I've been vaping DMT for months now and never seen a crystal, always waxy powder ranging from light yellow to dark orange/red. From what you've posted I don't see any reason to think it's solvent. Chop it up a bit with a razor and smell it, if it doesn't smell of solvent then you are probably good to go

Ya the powdery appearance isnt due to any solvents. It is likely just impurites from the plant material but... You use 1 lb of LYE! HOLY SHIT SON. Im suprised that even dissolves in your solution. If that is the true weight of all the lye you add you dont need nearly that much just for your future reference with extractions. You only need your water layer to turn black. Any extra lye after that is useless and a waste.

No no no.. all you need to worry about is ratio of lye to ratio of water to some extent. Basically how it works my friend is that dmt must be broken from its bond with the plant material and turned into its freebase form instead of its natural salt form in the plant to my knowledge. The pH you must reach is a basic pH of 13ish. Once you have that pH you are good. Once the water turns black, add alittle more lye for safe measure, and thats all you need.If you have any precipitates, add more lye.
1g lye to 1g mimosa is a good ratio. It's what most people use. The ratio of lye to mhrb is what matters, the amount of water/lye is less significant. I recently made a thread about this and was surprised by the answer.

Since nobody mentioned this I guess I will. Your yeild is kinda low, you should have seen probably closer to 7-11 grams final product at an average yeild of around 1%.. You may still be able to do a couple/few more pulls and retrieve more goodies. Then again maybe not, that's just my experience.

one lb is 454 grams so 1% would be 4.5 grams. between the 3.5 grams of powder and the other gram to gram and a half that didnt dry well it sounds about right. i do think there is plenty more spice in there, at least a gram or two as i have some solvent that is still mixed with the mhrb sludge that i wanted to let sit for awhile after reading a thread saying that surprisingly large pulls can be found when letting a bit more solvent sit for a month or so after initial extraction. 7-11 grams was what i was hoping for and im sure il get closer to it as i get more experience, this was only my 2nd extraction
