Hey has anyone heard of this? It's called sumatriptan and it's a drug for the treatment of migrane headaches. Several dosage forms for sumatriptan have been approved, including tablets, solution for injection, and nasal inhalers. Sumatriptan was the first triptan available (in 1993), and is available only by prescription in the United States.[/color:aa7a72d887] And here's DMT's chemical makeup: [img:aa7a72d887]Erowid DMT Vault : Images Now I know nothing about chemistry but it seems that if it was possible to cut that little tail off the Sumatriptan you would theoretically have DMT. Any chemists out there know if this is at all possible?

Holy shit man it probably is possible,although I ain't no chemist and don't know enough about organic chemistry to know how if it were,but it sure would be interesting to know if it has ever be done or at least tried. Edited to add that it wouldn't be worth it unless you got these for free.It is apparently available by prescription in most countries but can be bought over the counter in the united kingdom for almost 7 pounds which is about 15 bucks for two 50mg pills.I would imagine that chopping off that tail on the molecule would make it weigh even less,so juts for the hell of it let's say we got 40mgs of that stuff from each pill the price is just not worth it.You didn't even convert it yet.You would need to have the necessary reagents and perhaps even expensive equipment and mainly the knowhow of how to proceed.You might as well extract from a certain kind of rootbark which is relatively cheap,materials are easily obtainable and it's easy as making soup. On the other hand if DMT could be easily transformed into that and re-transformed back into DMT easily it would be a good way to store DMT.You would have a substance that is legal,and you can prepare spice trips when needed. :lol:

This is very interesting. I wonder how the drug companies make this stuff, you know where does this come from. I'm pretty sure I can get this cheap or for free here in Iceland :D

A person of knowledge on another board PMed me this: The phenyl ring is in the wrong position. That could be changed though; I'm pretty sure there's a named reaction to perform that function. The 'tail' is a different story though. You're hacking on carbon bonds, what equates to the skeletal structure of the whole shebang. Selectively destroying a carbon-carbon bond seems a bit of a challenge to me as I'm not so skilled in O-chem yet. I'd be willing to bet that a haloform attack on the thionyl/sulfoxyl/whateveritis on that tail might ...um... do something. Thionyl chloride (EEK!) may be produces if using Cl. Iodine or bromine might be better suited... that seems likely to me as I can see a halogen readily reacting with sulphur... oh, right, sulfer spontaneously burns in a chlorine atmosphere...... Hmm. Hey, at least it'd remove that group! Then you're left with that lone carbon sitting out there on the end being either a halogenated carbon or maybe a methyl (CH3) if it saturates with H. If it gets halogenated (without wrecking the other tail's di-methylated nitrogen in all of this; Unlikely I think) you could probably H-bomb the fucker (whoa!) or oxidize to a ketone, nitrate to imine & reduce to amine... Hmm... I wonder what an NH3 would do right there? That would also make the phenyl ring and this weird tail a phenyl-methyl-amine, I think (phenthylamine-ish?), if I understand this correctly... Another carbon on that chain WOULD make it a PEA so long as it had an amine group at the end...

Yeah,I rather trust a certain rootbark designed by God than a synthetic compound designed by some mad chemist working for a multinational moneyhungry pharmaceutical corporation.But a question for the more knowledgable than I at chemistry.OK so imagine we manage to cut off that tail.what would the difference be with that other tail reversed?I suppose It's like a key that doesn't exactly match the receptors keyhole.Who the fuck knows?Anyone ever try DET? is it similar in effects to DMT? Just wondering.

Thanks for all the responses guys and Noman for his noble attempt :D. I kinda thought that this would be harder to accomplish than it looked. I guess it's no big loss though, plenty of natural plants to use in getting the spice.

hey all! ive been lurking for quite some time now here but mostly post on bl. however this topic cought my eye because when i was reaserching posible synth routs to dmt imitrex was on my list. a little while back in a bl thread i said something about having another amine atached to dmt at a 4 or 5 position, im not sure if this would be the result of what your pharmasist buddy was talking about but if it is i would say tell him to give it a go and tell what happens, i am verry interested in what the results would be... 5-(2-aminoethyl)-DMT
