John Smith
"Methods of Exploring Consciousness: Non-spiritual meditation/yoga?"
SWIM's a "pro" at it and has been practicing it for over 2 years. Simply put its maintaining, or trying to maintain the state of "Mindfulness" and "Equinimity"(sp?) at all times. Best achieved doing menial tasks such as washing the dishes at his fast-food workplace, taking long walks etc. SWIM recieves much benefit from it, especially combined with his "Plant Experiences".
SWIM highly recommends audiobook "Science of enlightenment" by Shinzen Young, which can by acquired by a variety of means. Shinzen Young is different from other spiritual teachers because not only he is a zen monk(and variety of other things from spiritual point of view) but also teaches Psysics/Mathematics at college level in North America. His explanations are very accessible and down to earth, along with a very soothing voice to fall asleep to.
