Syrian Rue Extract to Freebase help needed!

Hi All,

I recently purchased some rue 20:1 extract and I'm trying to make a freebase out of it. I bought 20 grams and I've been reading through this forum looking for idea's on how to turn it into freebase but I'm getting a little confused since I purchased it halfway through the process. I put five grams in vinegar/water 50/50 last night and now I have a red murky mess.

I'm looking for some simple instructions with items that I have around my house. My tools are; white vinegar, baking soda, table salt, H2O, coffee strainer, lemon juice, 2 jars. Am I missing tools? Should I get a PH test?

For simplicity I will use 10 grams of my 20:1 extract.

1) What is my first mix (vinegar and water or something else)? What is the ratio of water to vinegar?
2) Then I decant (do I save the liquid?)
3) What do I make the next mixture with and what ratio? I've heard baking soda with some salt
4) Then water wash?

Any help would be appreciated!

Mix the extract with water with a little bit of vinnegar.

Let sit and filter out the solids.

Add sodium carbonate. Alkaloids will precipitate out.

Here you can either decant the water away, add a bit more water, let settle and decant away and evapp. This is what I do and it leaves very pure Freebase harmalas.

Or you can filter and keep the harmalas that are stuck on the filter.


with the decanting method I get harmalas that are able to orally activate dmt at 90 mg for me, so its pretty pure.

Silly question: Do I want to keep the first round of solids or just the liquid?

Add the sodium carbonate to the left over solids with water?

Would this produce a nice tan color?

I'll post pictures of the process along the way.

I'm no chemist!

No, you keep the liquid from the first filtering and throw out the solids. The harmalas are very soluble in acidic water and they will be in there. The water should be a strong yellow

Then put that water in a container that is easy to decant with. When you add the sodium carbonate all of the alkaloids will poof out of the water, and take some time to settle out on the bottom. THen you slowly pour away almost all of the water, stopping and letting it rest again if it gets to disturbed.

Then when almost all the water is gone, fill it back up with water and repeate the decanting process. This purifies and removes the excess sodium carb from the final product, as well as any other water soluble impurities.

1. No need to add vinegar. The 20:! syrian rue extract will dissolve in plain water just fine.

2. You need washing soda (Sodium carbonate or Na2CO3) for all of the rue extract to turn into freebase. Baking soda (Sodium bicarbonate or NaHCO3) will not convert all of it. First you must convert your baking soda into washing soda. This can be done by heating it in an oven or in a baking pan on high heat for 30 minutes. If you can get soda lye (NaOH), you don't need to bother with the baking/washing soda, as it works even better than those. Be careful with lye and wear gloves and safety glasses.

Yeah no problem. In the future, you can buy the seeds at any iranian/persian market.. 128 grams for 5 bucks. They are like 5 percent alkaloids by weight and you use the procedure I outlined. 5 grams of pure harmalas for 5 bucks, using less than 100mg per trip.. quite the bargain.

I cannot seem to get the water to turn yellow.

Mason Jar
1) 2 cups of water
2) 5 grams of 20X
3) Sat overnight
4) Poured Red Liquid in new jar - discarded the muck on the bottom
5) Added 2 table spoons of washing soda - arm and hammer = I started to see some bubbles like glass of Guinness beer
6) Got frustrated and added more and more washing soda
7) checked this morning - still red

Final product red murky with washing soda on the bottom.

You may need to boil and strain the seeds, preferably three or more times. Combine the boilings, maybe reduce the volume of the liquid by boiling, then let it stand so some of the fine particles can settle at the bottom. Decant.

Make a concentrated solution of the soda by dissolving the soda in boiling water until no more dissolves. Let it cool and decant from the undissolved or crystallized soda at the bottom.

Poor the saturated soda solution into the rue tea while stirring. Put it in the refrigerator to maximize precipitation.

Are you sure that you have washing soda and not baking soda?

I do not have seeds I have 20:1 extract powder. I'm trying to change the color from red to light gray via extraction. Should I boil the powder?

I positive that I bought washing soda I will try to concentrate it.

Started over:

This time two batches 3 grams of 20x.
- Each jar has one cup of water
- The jar on the top has 1 table spoon of wash
- The jar on the bottom has just water
- Both have been shaken and will sit overnight

Well, the washing soda looks okay. With my harmalas, I get a noticeable color change right away when adding sodium carbonate. The dark red liquid turns yellow/green and a tan to white snowstorm of precipitates forms. My harmala extract looks golden yellow.

Ok.. the water needs to be filtered and free of any suspended sediment before you add the washing soda. You need to re acidify it, and let it sit and filter until the liquid is nice and transparent. It will have a rich color, but you should be able to see through a bit when the suspended particles settle out.. Sorry If I did not make this clear earlier. I did not expect the extract to look that way.

You cant precipitate the alkaloids while the water is still muddy because then you will just get muddy harmalas.


That extract looks... interesting. Seems harder to work with than just the plain seeds because of the powderyness.

Overnight some sediment built up on both samples; however, no color change.

The pure water sample: I might decant tonight and let it sit overnight again before adding wash.

The washed sample: Decant add more wash and let it sit overnight.

I'm starting to think my supplier may have provided me with just ground up seeds instead of an extract. If that is the case do I need to boil it or should I add vin?

I bought another couple ounces of it. If someone want's a sample to test and see if they can get it to work let me know!

Yeah I think you were just provided ground up seeds...


Honestly I would just scrap it and buy whole seeds, they are way easier to work with. 5 bucks for a big of seeds that provides 50 trips.
