tao of rue crystals?

the tao of rue was followed very strictly up to the point of where the salt was added. SWIM filtered his basic solution through a t shirt and placed the solids in very hot water and vinegar. This again was filtered and everything that was solid was set aside (plant fats and oils?). There was about 1000ml of light red liquid which SWIM proceeded to add 100 grams of non iodized Kosher salt to. the vessels were allowed to cool to room temp then were placed in the fridge. The problem is SWIMS ?crystals? do not look like the needle like ones pictured in the tao of rue tek. They are more of a sediment on the bottom , and there are a slight few floating on top in one of the vessels, And swim is not sure if these are the harmaloids or if they are something else . What would cause the crytals to look like sediment, not grow? Are these possibly harmaloids?

If it cooled too fast or there was a bit too much salt, or if the whole solution is too impure to begin with, it precipitates as very small crystals that just looks like some sediment. In any case that should be your harmalas. After decanting/filtering, you can redissolve them, and if you repeat the process and cool it all slowly, it should precipitate as needles.

Just one thing, just in case, dont throw your solution away after filtering the precipitates. Warm it again and try to add more salt to see if anything else crashes out.

I figured out the problem... When I read the tek, I thought it said water and vinegar for that step...it needed to be place in hot vinegar only. Thank all of you for reinforcing the fact that everything needs to be saved .I redisolved all of the old solids i had in only vinegar, filtered and this time the solution bubbled- neutralized- and there wasnt very much that was left behind when filtered. The solution is very,very red now and I actually noticed a reaction this time. Thanks again Endlessness and everyone else here.
