The Arc Turboflame Lighter Available in US for $13!

Migrated topic.
i read through this thread and saw a few mentions of lighters not working etc. so i thought i should just go through some quick jet lighter maintenance. i used to have a 3jet tiger and that was hands down, the most effective ive ever used for gvg, but the most fuel hungry too. anyway.

1. check there is no obstructions inside the inner shroud, blow it out, or tap it.
2. check the flame intensity screw and adjust to the lowest setting which works flawlessly (starts first click and doesnt blow out or flicker)
3. if the above steps didnt work, take some longnose pliers and twist/pull out the jet element and poke through all the holes and gaps with a sewing needle. blow/tap out any obstructions and make sure gas is comming out (gas flow to the touch, or smelling it)
4. press the jet back in and make sure its seated correctly, also.. some jet lighters have an adjustment underneath the jet, so you could twist that with a screwdriver to get correct gas flow too.

if that doesnt work, and you havent had much use out of your jet lighter, contact the seller and demand a refund/replacement.
i hope that helps some people.

I didn't want to create a new topic but for the people who like the design of the vector volt better, here is the unbranded version of it for 8€:

Honest Lighter / Honest Portable Classic Cigarette Cigar Lighter Butane Gas Jet Flame Lighter

I would also recommend using a premium brand butane or even butane/propane mix for torches/jet lighters because the impurities in the gas can produce a weaker flame as well as clog up your lighter.
Personally I use Colibri Universal Gas and I never had a problem of my lighter misfiring or not working when held upside down.

The Honest vector volt style lighter I purchased arrived today from Hong Kong, some ~20 days after ordering.

Upon filling everything seems on par with the vector volt (which I found in my coat pocket.. dope!.. )

Will try to put both the zico (~arc) and the honest (~volt) through the gaunlet and return with news.

Cheers

Hey DudeMeetTyler,

I'd like to hear your opinion on those two lighters. I recently received the Zico and those are my conclusions but YMMV.

Handling:
Volt wins this one. The lighter is smaller, lies better in your hand and uses the normal ignition technique. The Arc is bigger and the ignition feels awkward at first. People who are excited and have sweaty hands aren't able to use it properly ;)

Flame:
I often had problems with the Volt when igniting upside down. There are tricks to get it going perfectly but it takes time to find out. It also misfires if I don't drag on the GVG. The Arc on the other hand is superb. No misfiring and a steady flame making it my favourite when it comes to the flame quality.

Other things:
What I like about the Volt that it's easy to see how much gas is left in the tank as well as the protection against dirt in front of the ignition.

This might help somebody who can't decide which lighter he should pick but as I said YMMV.

For now I'm sticking to the Arc because some of my friends misfire during their inhalation which is really awkward.

Just got a Zico. Gave it a couple test lights and it seemed to work great. Then I popped off the twist cap on the bottom to see how I would refill it when the need eventually arises. Seemed to be pretty straightforward. I put the twist cap back on, but now every time I try to light it there's no flame, only spewing butane.

This is actually my first butane lighter so I'm probably doing something wrong. Anyone have any suggestions for this n00b? Thanks in advance. :)

As with all butane lighters around the refill whole there is like a screw piece that adjusts the flame size , so my guess is your've turned the flame size adjuster up to high !!

Hmmm, I knew about twisting the end to adjust the flame (I tried that when I first unpackaged it and it worked well)... It only turns 180 degrees and I've tried lighting it at both extremes and in between. Each time it just spews butane with no flame. :?

Edit: When I get home from work I'll try removing the end and twisting the flame adjustment with a needlenose pliers.

Well, I was able to turn the small flame adjustment knob with my fingers, but I turned it too far and it popped out and all the butane was released. I haven't been able to get it back in, although I've avoided applying too much pressure.

I miss my old, trusty lightbulb/Bic setup. That never failed me. This GVG/ceramic flavor disc/torch setup is too complicated for my simple mind.
