Migrated topic.

So I decided to do Q21Q21’s tek and here are some pictures, cos I know how much you guys like them, to see how it all went.

After I heard about some people having problem with this tek I was not sure what amount to start with but then I decided to go for 100g of MHRB

It is not really very difficult to do but one think is very important as I found out and that is to get right consistency before you start with pulls. On the picture number six you see the right consistency. Make sure you get it right and you will pull nice white beautiful fluffy spice. You get it wrong and you will get into a problem to get the naphtha out of your jar, like I had before I corrected my mistake.

Just remember if it’s too muddy you will get into trouble. As I found out its better a bit on the dry site then too wet.

I have only done two pulls so far. First pull was 500mg and second 350mg. I have a feeling that there should be still more spice in there.

I will update once I have done more pulls.

Just google Ca(OH)2 or Pickling/ Slaked Lime you will find it. Try ebay for example I found one pound for $5.50. If you need more info maybe check supplier section of this forum. This is not the right place to ask about it.
Affirmative... Had to use gardening lime. And thx for the looks.
Hollywood white:| ... Photoshop:( ... 😁 Nah its just an expensive camera point it at a person and you see how ugly they really are. The second pic didn't completely focus as you can see, i took that shot a few times.

Smokerx, did you do a reX? You got a really good yield. Just curious what that would be reduced too after a good heptane reX? Might try this one next time it needs to be done.

@Smokerx when did you do your first, second, third, & fourth pulls?

1. after around one hour
2. after around two hours

Pull 1. and 2. were combined together and put in freezer

3. after around 24 hour
4. after around 48 hour

Then I tried one more but it yield nothing

Good luck my friend

i like to take my time with this tek. i let the vinegar and water soak in the bark for 2-3 hours, once i add my lime i like it to sit for 8-12 hours, then add naptha and do first pull and freeze precip for 12 hours, then 2nd pull 24 hrs, 3rd pull 48 hrs later, 4th and 5th pulls if needed 1 week later for each pull. I've found that doing it this way you'll get 90-95% off your first 3 pulls. if I'm doing a small extraction I'll keep pulling until i have no yeild, but for larger extractions i'm done after 3 pulls unless the 3rd pull is significant and so on

Thank you so much for posting those pics....great for a newbie trying to figure out consistancies! Really helpful. I appreciate the time and effort!:d

No problem hope it will go well for you.

When teks mention using water, can one use tap water or must it be DI, or can bottled water be used? And vinegar from the store comes pre diluted, so would you add however-many mL of the vinegar, or however many mL of acetic acid.

did not see this one :)

Tap water is fine but I normally use DI. Just get white vinegar from any store it will do the job just fine.

@smokerx

Hey, sorry for bringing up a dead thread but this post is very informational.

I'm about to start the tek and I have noticed that the consistency is a consistent (no pun intended) issue when everyone tries this tek. You said you oven dried the mix? I assume you scooped the mixture out of the mason jar into a bowl and placed the bowl into the oven or did you just stick the jar into the oven and scooped the crumbly mixture out?

And for the oven what was your optimal baking time and temperature for the mixture?

And one last question
you said you combined the first two pulls. What did you do with the first pull while you were waiting to do the second pull? Place it in the freezer and then combine the two pulls after the second pull was finished?

Yes

Just a bit of heat not too much you only need to worm it up to dry it a bit. Do not put it on high temp! I remember that I even left the oven door open a little bit.

I was then just watching it every like 5-minutes for consistency till it was right as you see on the picture.

You do not need to do this step if you get it right from the beginning.

I think I just left it in a closed glass jar till I got the second pull :)

I don't mean to be a bother but as you're scooping the mixture to put it into a bowl how did you deal with the potential loss of goods. In your picture the mixture looks very pasty, how did you get all of it out into a bowl and into the oven?

I would think putting the jar into the oven and getting it to the right consistency to pour the crumbles out into a bowl would make more sense but you said you did it the other way. Can you explain that for me?

I may not understand exactly the question you are asking? I mean you just simply empty the jar into a bowl or any kind of cooking dish suitable for oven. What potential loss would there be ? You just make sure you empty it all.

Also do not forget that I only did this because I did not get the right consistency at the beginning but if you do it right you do not need to use oven at all.

And the the last comment: if you leave all of it in small jar it will take very long to dry it out. You need to spread it all on bigger surface that is why I put it on bigger cooking tray.

Hope it helped
