to cool or not to cool?

Hi all, first post. :d i'm soooo thrilled to be part of this community. Enough said on to my question.

Do any of you know if the STB yield is better when adding the MHRB to the lye solution before it cools?

I have heard cases for both but was wondering if anyone has actually made a comparison?

I seemed to get lower yields from cooled solutions, heat makes more DMT soluble in the solvent. However I would not start doing pulls untill a few hours while all of the bark is broken down by the caustic solution. I recommend heat batchs to keep the whole thing warm. This way you can use less solvent to get the goodies and don't need to evaporate much solvent at all before freeze precipitating.

Personally I never let it cool at all when doing A/B or STB. It saves me from heating up the solvent as the residual heat from the Lye reaction does it for me. After mixing them around for a while I place my jars in a slow cooker filled with water to keep them warm. This helps the layers to separate nice and quickly and allows for a few more agitations before pulling off the solvent. I once did a cold extraction by accident (I had to run out and come back hours later) and it did seem to reduce yield by about 20 percent. With STB and heat you will find you'll pull more of the other alkaloids and oils present in the MHRB and some goo will probably come along for the ride. I usually recrystallize the spice and mix the gooey stuff on the bottom of my dish with leaves and 99% IPA to make enhanced leaf or changa which it seems perfect for. Actually recently I ended up with a pile of yellow goo and oil in the bottom of my freeze container so I let it evap as much as possible, added 15 ml of warm 99% IPA and mixed it all around until it was dissolved and then I added a whole bunch of blue lotus leaves and let it evap down to dry. It now smells stronger than hot mustard. I'm looking forward to trying it. Keep in mind I use Bestine (heptane) instead of Naphtha but in regards to this issue it won't make a difference.

Good luck with your extractions! I really like the end product with STB but if you haven't already you should also consider giving the A/B method a try. It is a little more labor intensive but you usually end up with a larger yield and a purer result. (in my experience anyway). And with A/B you can do a few jars at a time and keep a couple full of acid solution in the fridge for months or years even. It's a nice shortcut for your next extraction or you have some mimosa tea mix all ready to go if you want to do Ayahuasca, all you need is the MAOI.

Thanks for the info! So is it not enough to heat just the Naptha? If I understood the Noman TEK correctly, only the Naptha is heated for the pull..or am I misreading it. Obviously these TEK's aren't hard science and many variations are out there, I just wanted to hear from experience sounds like some experimentation is in order!

I let the solution sit and work and cool, do a couple of pulls, let the solution sit for a day, do another pull, then heat the entire solution in a water bath and do a final pull. Then I switch to xylene.
This gives you nice clean alks at the start and the last few pulls get the rest of the - grubbier but still active - goods.

Bestine is cleaner that is why it's used for re-x. Naphtha pulls more of the jungle spice. Due to restrictions in this state I'm unable to acquire Naphtha so I use Bestine for extraction and re-x and I'm quite happy with the results.
