I couldn't imagine getting addicted to cannabis. It just makes me so... well it makes me watch telly. Granted I do like a good few shows but cannabis makes me much less choosey.

I only really smoke it with a couple of friends who I don't see often, though on occasion I will spoil myself with some fine hash, but that's mainly a taste thing.

Playing an instrument while high is pretty cool though :)
 
agreed with the music device and smoking...

its great...SWIM used to be addicted to weed...but he thinks his usage of powerful psychedelics has smashed that addiction to pieces...he can still smoke it all the time..but he never cares if he does or not...also it doesnt effect his dreams anymore...he can always remember them really well..but it wasnt always like that
 
1. Cactus
This could well get knocked off the top spot when SWIM manages to extract enough mescalito for a good exploration. As for ingesting the plant, he recommends this: simply break up the cactus chips into little pieces. If lazy, use a food processor but don't turn it to dust because that'll release more flavour, and you'll have to then pour it into water and wash it down quickly before the flavour escapes. Toss n wash the broken chips (as in swallow bitesize amounts with something to wash it down with).
Tea is horrifically bitter and many people can't even get it down without gagging. And if you chew the chips, pieces will get ground into your teeth and the bitterness will be released. If you toss n wash it dry then the flavour doesn't have the opportunity to come out.
Ingest half of your cactus, then wait half an hour, then ingest the second half. Also don't eat for 4 hours beforehand to minimise nausea. Maybe you can ingest other things to reduce nausea but he can't advise on that because he's never tried it- he's usually had booze inside him to help with that!

2. Freebase DMT, smoked (He doesn't really enjoy doing this but he loves the benefits it gives him.)

Ok, SWIM doesn't particularly like any other psychoactives! So these aren't really favourites...
3. A little cocaine (this would probably be coca leaf if he'd tried it)
4. Kava
5. Wormwood/thujone

Betel nut would be at number 2 or 3 if it weren't carcinogenic.
MDMA would be up there too if it didn't drain all the happiness out of him for the following week.

Following on from what others have said about addiction- SWIM was psychologically addicted to weed and found it incredibly hard to give up, due to the 'hole' it left, and face the social exclusion when everyone else is still puffing away. He was very glad to give up but it was hard, and he would advise his children to try it if they really want but don't get into a habit, and he would advise cactus as an alternative, or thujone if they want to mong out, actually maybe not as it could be dangerous if too much is taken (he will be experimenting with myrrh soon too). He also found MDMA to be psychologically addicting but he gave that up very quickly. Binge drinking was hard to give up too.
 
Phlux- Coatl has said before that she only trips twice a year, so while she has an impressive amount of cactus knowledge, I do not consider her to have much personal experience with tripping. If she is 40 like he Edot profile says then maybe she is experienced, but she asserts that she is 19. Seeing as how she only appeared online asking people about dosage for her first ayawaska experience a couple of years ago, she definitely has little experience in that area- 4 times at the most if she'd abstained from all other entheos over the years. She's going to get annoyed with me for saying so, but I don't think it's right that she hides her personal inexperience for the sake of her ego. [Sorry C!]
 
1. Smoked DMT (including combinations with Rue tea, mushrooms and smoked Rue seeds)
2. Mushrooms (never had a really high dose, after that it might take poll position, I love mushrooms in general and Cubensis in particular!)

3. Cannabis, experienced without tolerance.
Development of tolerance to Cannabis is really long term, it takes years... I've been smoking it dayly for years but started only in my mid-thirties. Now, it's impossible for me to get really high, like in the first years... instead of thinking 'oh my god, I did it this time' it's getting relaxing - time to take a break I guess. Interesting to notice that several members find it really addictive. A few times a month is better. Without tolerance it can be a powerful psychedelic, not to be underestimated! Best experience was with home made hash oil from an outdoor Indica plant... or was it the very first one, strong space cake ;)

4. salvia - work in progress, I don't like it smoked but want to chew home-grown fresh leaves
5. good single malt whisky: best tasting & smelling psychoactive in the world!

The list is too short, I'm not a seasoned psychonaut like many of you... hopefully I'll finally experience mescaline for the first time from two San Pedros that have been growing slowly for many years. Setting is very bad here lately - traffic noise etc, I really have to move to a more peaceful location soon!
 
ohayoco..have you ever tried white sage? it has tons of thujone in it..more than wormwood I believe. I have lots and smoked it once, and got some minor clearing sort of effects..what effects could one expect if they decided to work with this chemical for a while?

Myrr sounds really interesting as well, as i recently found out that it has been used for smoking and as a snuff for a long time..frankinscense apparently has some interesting uses as well..

Yes, it was recently discovered that Frankincense has anti-depressant activity! The species is in trouble though, due to over-harvesting. It's actually very nice to smoke, maybe an interesting additive to one of these Changa mixtures.

I didn't know about the myrrhe, going to try out right now! How many of these incenses are actually psychoactive? Who knows Palo Santo is, last week a few pieces incidentally ended up in my pipe and I'm still not sure if 'it' was placebo or real.. vaporising would be better than smoking.
 
Yes someone told me that cooking sage has double the thujone. SWIM hasn't tried it though. Apparently if you're drunk and you smoke it, it'll sober you up because it has the opposite effect to alcohol on the relevent receptors.

SWIM has smoked wormwood and its kind of dreamy. But he thinks its best with alcohol (hence the historic use with absinth). SWIM soaked some wormwood in vodka (he had carefully calculated a safe dose beforehand)... think it was 50g wormwood soaked in 70cl vodka and he had a large shot of it, but don't trust my memory and beware that thujone content is meant to depend on freshness. Anyway, he had a shot of the vile bitterness (seriously, worse than cactus tea) and went to watch a friend's play. It makes you feel like a 19th century bohemian poet! He became very observent, dreamy and thoughtful, happy to just sit, watch and think. Afterwards he wandered around in the streets in the fog exploring the city. Trying to be sociable was a pain though- he had little desire to talk so felt uncomfortable because of that... he was much happier watching the play and on his wanderings.

Myrrh is meant to have been the main painkiller before opium, hence why Jesus was offered myrrh wine. It's apparently like a mild opiate, nice and sedating. There's a couple of threads on Edot.

4.cannabis(I only smoke a few times a year now but when i do its effects are completely different than when it used to be an every day thing)

i totally have to rewrite this

1. DMT's(all forms, harmalas, 4-ho-dmt, 5-ho-dmt, 5-meo-dmt*SWIM misses his toads*)
2. Salvia(he doesnt like smoking her except in a mild changa mix, he prefers talking to her plant and/or eating fresh leaves)
3. Mescaline(wonderful psychedelic, probably the most enjoyable/pleasurable at low doses)
4. Weed(weed is wonderful after spice journeys because its a very good way to ground yourself)
5. LSD(SWIM would have put salvia again..he just loves her so much)
 
tTwo recent experiences makes me want to totally reshuffle my top-5.

1-the very best psychedelic experience there is in my opinion: ayahuasca combined with mushrooms (cyanescens).
The mushrooms add something of a warmth or positive vibe to the whole experience, making it feel like you have the best of shrooms, ayahuasca and LSD combined.
It is like ayahuasca with better visuals, and the euphoria of LSD.
Also, less 'drunken-sailor' coördination and manouvreability.

2-peyote and san-pedro combined in large amounts. (purely peyote is probably better, but also more expensive. Nevertheless the peyote takes over and dominates this combo)
Peyote gives a cleaner, and more colourfull experience than san-pedro. Large amounts are extremely visionary and euphoric at the same time. It totally lacks anxiety and intimidation.

3-ayahuasca.
Life-changing insights and experiences. Yet, so intimidating, immersive and mercyless that it ranks at no 3 instead of 1. It simply rides over you like an unstoppable psychedelic freighttrain, but it's heavenly and divine at the same time.

4-shrooms.
Deep psychedelic. Not as deep though, as ayahuasca, and not as euphoric as number 1 and 2.

5-LSD.
Of all psychedelic's, LSD gives the smoothest, cleanest ride. It is more euphoric than 3&4, yet will not be as deep, insightfull and overwhelming.
When combined with passionflower (caapi might very well be even better) it will share the 4th place with mushrooms, being just slightly less visionary and deep as ayahuasca.

if this LSD-combo has joined the shrooms at no4, there is room left for a new no5. This would be oral cannabis. It can in many ways rival with LSD, if taken in the right amounts.
In some aspects it's superiour to LSD (physical sensations, psychological impact, aural sensations) and in some aspects it's inferiour (especially in the visual field).
It can give you a bit of a hangover, though. You will not feel as reborn the day after as with LSD, so it doesn't realy deserve to be prefered over acid. Combined with LSD it is absolutely fantastic, but then you have the question whether i should place it under the category 'acid combo's' or 'cannabis combo's'. There is a great synergy between the two, anyway.
